This hotel is perfectly positioned less than 5 minutes from the train station, a 5 minute walk from all major attractions, and a gelato shop across the street. Email the hotel directly and you can get everything done within days! I found the lady helpful with everything including showing me where breakfast would be. Our room had air conditioning, a... I was looking for a hotel that had some old-world Italian charm and that's exactly what I got. The person who checked me in was extremely friendly and spoke very good English. She provided me with a free map, even circling some of the main tourist attractions. My room was located down half a flight of stairs from the lobby... More

I was with a large group who split between three hotels - the Abaco, Giappone and Tourist House. This is run by the same people who own the Giappone. The Tourist House is friendly, very clean, and located right near the Santa Maria Novella church, near the train station. The center of town is a ten minute walk. Unlike the... More

I came back to The Tourist House for three reasons. Price, location and friendliness of staff. I found the cleanliness perfectly fine. I loved my room and even asked for the same room I had last year and they were happy to oblige and were happy to see me upon my return. This is a woman owned, woman run business.... More

This is more a hell hole than a tourist house. Certainly not a hotel. 1. Rooms are spartan. Not even a proper table beside the bed 2. Wifi weak 3. Moquitoes galore 4. And there was a dead cockroach too 5. Blankets felt dirty 6. Towels are paper thin 7. Receptionist unfriendly and lazy 8. Breakfast was scary - esp... More

Very convenient for the centre and the railway station but a nightmare to find by car. The receptionist to whom I spoke to ask for directions was less than helpful on the telephone and took no account of the fact that I was English so she did what the English are famous for doing - she spoke faster and more... Hotel is very well situated: 5 min from the train station and 5 min from the Duomo. It's just on the corner of the Piazza Santa Maria Novella. Clean with spacious AC rooms. Staff has been very friendly and professional. We've stayed just for one day, so we havwen't had any special requests. The basic things were just fine. Breakfast... More

The customer service at this location is great! The staff has been very accommodating and very patient with me even though I don't speak Italian. They have done everything that they could to make me feel welcome. Hotel is in great location downtown and is very affordable.

this is our second visit to The tourist house- Florence mainly because of its location. Situated near the train station and within walking distance to all the major attractions . It is very basic but clean the rooms are large which is more than can be said for the breakfast room, if more than four people want breakfast at the... More

I was on a solo four week trip over northern Italy and Florence was my second stop. The hotel was 5 minutes walk from the train station and at least 5 minutes to the closest tourist spot (Duomo and Arno River are just 5 minutes walk). Lots of restaurants, coffee shops, pizzerias, convenience stores in the area. Location is great.... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
