I had made a reservation with Relais Florence for one night for myself and teenage daughter. When we arrived at the designated date, first, it was hard to find the hotel as there was no sign in front, and, once we found it, we had to ring a bell and gentleman came down to let us in. Once we got... More

The location is just a couple blocks from the Santa Maria Novella station, a block and a half from the Duomo, not even a block to the Capelle Medici ... everything in Florence is walkable. Despite it's central location it is very very quiet at night. We stayed on a ground floor room and I am a very light sleeper,... More

My friend and I recently stayed at this hotel it was our first hotel for two nights on a trip to Italy. Located close to the train station and central to sight seeing. Cant fault it, clean, comfortable and homely. The couple who run the hotel were absolutely amazing helping with our trip, sight seeing and general safety in the... More

Me and my cousin have been backpacking across Europe the past few weeks and we were totally blown away by the genuine loveliness of the couple that owns this hotel! Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were an all round delight, showing us all the best restaurants, where the best views were etc! We even came back... More

Second hotel on our 14 day tour. Pros: Great location, close to train station. Pierro was an extremely pleasant host. Cons: Entrance from the street is a little eery - 3 sets of doors - felt like we were going into a cave and all the locks and bolts were a little daunting. We had Room #1 which is right... More

I give relais five stars based on what you pay here vs other places in Florence I've stayed. It is a good deal for a clean, friendly environment. Pierre was fabulous. As other reviewers have mentioned, he gave us lots of attention and helped us find some good spots for gelato and dinner. He watched our bags all day and... More

The couple who own this place, are amazing. SUPER friendly, will take the time to advise you, chat, Pierro told us the best restaurants, even the best place to find Gelatto (and both were totally on the money). His wife gave us great advice for day trips. They make you feel at ease. Rooms are large for Italy standards. Our... More

The location of the Relais was fantastic- a few minutes walk from the station and a few minutes walk to the centre of the city. We were allocated a room away from the hotel, an apartment a few streets away. I think this suited our needs better but it was a slightly unusual and unexpected step. The room was an... More

We stayed here for one night in October. Piero and Marcela were really helpful and excellent hosts...nothing too much trouble. Marcela gave us a map and told us where to visit. We could leave our bags forthe whole day we checked out if we wanted to. Location is really good....close to the station and near the centre. Only criticism was... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
