We stayed in the playroom suite at the Casa Howard Guest House which we reserved for a good price months before our stay. While this place is not a luxurious hotel like some of the other places we stayed on our two-week trip to Europe, I give it 5 stars because it met all of our criteria for what we... More

Lovely old building cleverly redesigned with distinctive decor. Friendly staff made us feel welcome. Good location and an extremely comfortable bed! Great place to base yourself when in Florence and when the door was closed a restful place to relax.

First keep in mind this is not a full service hotel but a guest house similar to a B&B. They give a master key to the front door and gate then a separate skeleton key to your room. Each room has a different and interesting theme and the location is across the street and around the corner from the Firenze... More

We had three rooms in this building. One was great - very spacious. The other two were just o.k. Not much room. Both were supposed to have two beds - neither did. In one they put sheets on the sofa and called it the other bed. Thank goodness the person was small that slept there. Bathroom was elevated - you... More

I am conflicted over how many stars to give this hotel. It met all of our requirements and the staff were INCREDIBLY hospitable and accommodating. (The staff I would give A FIVE.) But, the pictures on the website overstate the quality of the condition and appointments in the hotel. First, the facility is a converted grand house in Florence. So,... More

This hotel was little expensive than other same grade hotel even excluding breakfast. i booked 4month ago but Hotel assigned a room very tiny and dark room. Rate... More

This hotel was a great find, it was a easy 5 minute walk from the station with our bags and then a comfortable walk onto explore all the other attractions of Florence. There was a wide range of restraunts within a few minutes walk on the same street with a cafe across the road that had great coffee and pastries.... More

A most inspiring accommodation, located just round the corner from Piazza Santa Maria Novella, minutes from the station. The accommodation is run by staff that is very helpful and welcoming. The house is clean and well kept. We stayed in the Fireplace room that is large, beautifully decorated and has a large bathroom with free standing bath and Officina Santa... More

Casa Howard is an interesting hotel. Really different from the norm, but a nice place to stay. Very affordable option in the historic area, and most sites are walkable. Only complaint is that the hotel's air conditioning system had not been turned on due to the time of the year. Slept with windows open, and mosquitoes swarmed the room. Left... More

We couldn't have asked for a better price/quality relation. Not in Florence, not elsewhere in the world for that matter. We booked Casa Horward the night before we got there and we were very lucky because it was at a very low rate. On top of that they gave us an upgrade and we stayed on a gigantic room. I... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
