Nice and cozy, with small rooms but with very nice design clean and excellent for a short trip in FLorence Excellent service- the only one drop was the WiFi quality and speed. Except this - nothing to complain about. A place to return

I have no idea how this place is still running. - our room key was given to us with a large crack that looked grimey and dirty to touch. - there was no AC remote to control the temperature. Needless to say when we needed it adjusted we had to go downstairs to get the remote, adjust it, and return... More

A very nice hotel located 5 minutes from the main railway station. Nice comfortable room with all the amenities, except a safety deposit box which should be available in every room. Location is perfect, easy access to the most important sites, Recommended. A good value . Good AC, clean and large bathroom. Strong water pressure and good free wifi.

The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the Railway Station (Santa Maria Novella) and is near the church. Great location as only a short stroll from the Dumo and other tourist sights. We booked a Superior Room which was overlooking the Piazza Santa Maria Novella which is lovely and not too crowded. However, in the evening it can... More

We booked two of the recently renovated balcony rooms. They were gorgeous suites. Our room had a private balcony with a panoramic view of Florence. The hotel was clean, modern, and had a nice breakfast included. The elevator is a bit small, but this is Europe, after all. The outside of the hotel doesn't look like much, but the balcony... More

Quaint hotel just next to the railway station .. Which is good as most wine tours start there, the square in which it is located is good too . Again plenty of places to eat within a few minutes walk, close to a street in where plenty of leather goods are sold - Florence has some of the best leather... More

I upgraded to a double room as I stayed in Venice first in a 'box' and without seeing my original room upgraded in Florence. Wow, king size bed, fabulous view, walking yo the train station, great cafes at the door, good bathroom all for £15 a night more. Definitely stay again. Europe has a heat wave and the temps were... I chose Universo because the rooms looked so kitshy I had to see it. This said, I slept well and you can't find a better place than Piazza Santa Maria Novella (close to both the centre and the station). WiFi is free but it was down most of the time.

This hotel was great! It is located in a gorgeous square, and it is very quiet. My friend and I were in room 509 which was an excellent room - it was a penthouse style room with a private rooftop terrace. I couldn't day enough nice things about it. Also, the pizza restaurant next door is really good (and very... More

Hi there! I'm Italian and I'm used to stay in Park Hyatt and similar, so I'm not impressionable. Well, I was in Florence for work last week. I had to extend my stay in the city and my first hotel (where I wasn't able to extend my reservation) suggests the Hotel Universo (which is in the same square where I... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
