First thing I need to mention is this hotel consists of two buildings. We weren't aware of this when we booked, not that it made any difference to us! The reception is in the front building at the Arno River entrance. Staff were friendly and gave us restaurant suggestions and directions to attractions. Our room was enormous! It was the... More

Lovely hotel right on the river, nice walk to shops and train station etc. The staff were fantastic and really went out of their way to look after me. I'm picky about cleanliness and this place was impeccable! Good value as well. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

We got this reservation in a hurry based on the vicinity of the Arno and of course the prices. It's a nice hotel, helpful staff but don't take the rooms in the "dependence" or you will regret. They didn't invest much in them and you can tell. Maybe some of other rooms are better but not these ones. Quite costly... More

A moest hotel in an old beautiful building, great location just by the river, close to downtown with a 10 minute walk from the central parts, very easy to find as well. Unhelpful staff, wifi substandard and breakfast a joke. The hotel could with serious refurbishment be very nice.

Beautiful hotel with high ceilings and nice decor. However, that does not apply to the rooms that are located in the small house in the back yard... No internet in the rooms and loud street life just outside the window. Varying service. The owner and the night watch in the reception were nice and friendly, but another receptionist was outright... A beautiful hotel in Firenze. The room was really big and perfect for our stay. The only complaint we have is that the bed was a bit broken. We came with car, and parked really easily in the back garden. Nice place for the value. Near walk to the river and city center

The good: location was nice, looking over the river. Hotel staff were pleasant, gave us an extra blanket due to the cold, excellent shower pressure. Very enjoyable breakfast in the more expensive part of the property which was included so that was a bonus . The not so: the cheaper room we stayed in is not part of the main... More

This was a lovely older hotel about a kilometre down river from the Ponte Vecchio, fantastic for getting away from the crowds of the historic area. Our main level, double room was a bit small but there was a common area in the lobby where a person could sit and read or get on the internet. The wifi signal was... More

Foreword: Do not book here if you expect a 5 stars hotel! That said, the Hotel Consigli is a good choice if you want to visit Firenze ... and not watching HD-TV, surf on the Hi-Speed Internet or take a jacuzzi on a SPA! Location: This is a nice 3-star hotel near the US consulate, in a very quiet part... More

A little bit of a hike from train station, but cabs are cheap. Hop on/off bus also stops not far off. Large clean room, nice breakfast, great rooftop patio for sunset views, but what really makes this special is the staff. They circled the best restaurants and gelateria in Firenze on our map. (All within easy walking distance.) When it... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
