We were only in Florence for one night and this place was perfect for our needs - so close to the train station! We walked everywhere - to the San Lorenzo market for great leather goods, the spectacular Il Duomo and the beautiful river with the bustling Ponte Vecchio. Our room was basic but very clean with a tiny shower... More

As everyone else has said if you hate stairs read on but.... We stayed here for 4 nights. It's been recently painted and the rooms are large. The bed is comfy and the pillows are excellent! Yes it's a bit noisy and the rooms are quite warm but if you want easy to find, right in the heart of the... More

Great location if you are arriving/departing by train. You spend no time or effort in searching for the hotel, or carrying luggage. Carlos is quick and efficient. Electronic door keys are for 24 hr entry/exit. The rooms are basic and quaint. Bathrooms are spotlessly clean. The only problem is, there is no lift and the floors are high. Overall, for... More

The hotel is located near the train station and allows you to visit Florence by foot. You will have to climb stairs and accept below average accommodations if you stay here. Unless booked at a great bargain, it is probably not worth your money. The common areas have a strong smell of, well, pets.

.Not a friendly welcome. Getting to bedrooms keeps you fit - about 70 stairtreads. Shared bathroom can be hazarduous when wet . Lots of street rowdies about till 2/3 am. Bedroom fan also noisey! Owners ignore you; their youngsters use the guest loo. Not value for money.

The location is absolutely perfect. A short and nice walk to the city centre and next to the stations. Staff is nice. No lift, many stairs. Restaurants and shops in the surroundings. At least the room where we stayed was very very hot (even using the fan) and very very noisy. I think that if price is much better than... More

The hotel itself is very clean and very nice. The gentleman that manages the place is also a very friendly guy and has a wonderful dog. The room was clean nothing to complain about and nothing to rave about. The hotel provides what you need and in an excellent location within florence. If you are the type of person who... More

My family and I just got back from Italy and stayed at the Fiorentino. It was a great location in Florence as it was a very short walk to the train/bus station. It was also close to many restaurants and gelatarias. The hotel is run by a man and his dog. He was perfectly pleasant but not very helpful. When... More

This hotel is very close to the train station and right next to the SMN church. It took us a bit to find it, but the location is really good. Florence had a cooler spell this April, so we had no need for the AC. We managed okay with shared bathroom. The manager helped us with the luggage to the... More

We have stayed here at least four times over the last seven years. It's perfectly located virtually across the road from the train station and close walking distance to all the main attractions. We move opening the windows and seeing and hearing the church bells from st. maria.novella church next door. You do need a bit of a work out... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
