The hotel is located in the city center. The hotel staff was very friendly and always at your service. The rooms are comfortable, neat and clean as well as bathrooms. From the room you can see a beautiful view of Florence. Although the hotel is located in the center it is still very quiet.

We are a muslim couple, in transit from Rome to Venice. The hotel is well located, short walking distance from the Firenze SM Novella train station (very handy coming from Rome by train). Walking distance to Piazza del Duomo, Centro Storico and few other monuments as well as shopping district. More importantly for us, the halal restaurant (fast food) is... More

There is no normal heating, room temperature was between 16 and 18 celsius all day and night. Terribly cold! In vain was the maximum heating, the windows are extremly bad. In four days the elevator was bad three times, while the room was on the 5th floor (122 steps) One receptionist was so smelly that we felt the whole floor... More

Budget price and great location. Shower is small, but you have access to kitchen for cooking and tea and coffee. So close to everything, train and all sights and although on main street near train station it is very secure 3 doors with locks to your room. Not much interaction with staff as we stayed in the other rooms across... More

We stayed in their second building (across the road from the one with reception) and it was lovely. Large room with a mini fridge + kettle as well as a shared kitchen. We were able to do laundry for 3€ a load (no dryer though, just a clothes hanger) and they did this for us so we could make the... More

A small dinky lift takes you up to the 5th floor where the hotel is located. The rooms are pretty small but you get what you pay for in a tourist-heavy city like Florence. Bathroom was renovated compared to the room but toilet papers were one-piece tissues and the toiletries (shampoo and body wash) seemed a little sketchy. Upon checking... More

We have just had our second visit to Hotel Ester, having travelled 27 Sept to 1 Aug. Hotel is situated in old Jewish quarter and has character. Rooms are a good size and are well air conditioned. About 20 mins from airport and walking distance to Schindlers factory and the old ghetto area, it's in a great position. Loads of... More

The location is excellent close to the railway station and 5 minutes walk to the Duomo and San Lorenzo market. We stayed for 5 nights at this hotel and it was a very positive experience. The hotel is split in 2 parts and we had a room in the part without a lobby which meant that we only met the... More

Hotel Ester is a 'Gem'! Marco and staff (there is a lady that answered all our questions and gave us tidbits about places/museums closing late on Tuesday nights! As well as Marco!) The room and ensuite bathroom was spacious (great shower) with Juliette balcony. 3 mins from Florence Santa Maria Novella train station. Neighborhood is urban (as in any city... More

A quirky hotel, reasonably priced and super secure (three keys to get in and out of). Large rooms, good bathroom and facilities in the lobby for tea, coffee etc. also small utility room that was very handy.

Staying in San Lorenzo

Neighborhood Profile
San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo’s lively merchants shout out from behind stalls with an array of products in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Florence. Different ethnic groups join together in the large outdoor market of San Lorenzo and in the Central Market, a vast multi-floored building. Visitors are bound to fall in love with this area and in particular, with its variety of food, especially those focusing on Florentine dishes as well as international selections. Nobody leaves San Lorenzo without a shopping bag in hand or with an empty stomach.
