The guy that works there is nearly never there, he leaves notes to say he's gone off somewhere. A note can't check you in though can it? Don't count on throwing your bags in and going for a nice walk, you might be waiting hours at the door. There is mould on the walls in the bedrooms and the bedclothes... More

I travelled to 11 countries. Stayed in hostels which really were uncomfortable. But never seen a hostel that much dirty. The bedclothes were full of stains and hairs. Worst of all was the smell of the bathroom. There is no even soap in bathrooms. When you ask for, the hotel staff responds like 'we dont have'. The rooms are full... More

Had an awesome time here at the duilio with a few friends, feels like home. Right by the river, short walk to train station. And if it's as hot as it is now there's a great pool 10 minutes walk away. Super sweet Romanian girl running it, may have fell in love haha I would stay here again

Super friendly, very cosy and just all round great hostel! Location is a bit out of the way but who really cares, still within walking distance of everything! The staff are awesome and while the place is small I found it no problem, especially when you pay 8 euro a night! I seriously recommend it

The location is not very near Firenze S.M.N. Sometimes, there's no hot water or no water at all, you have to tell the receptionist first. The staff is friendly and helpful. The beds are nice and clean, so if you're just here to sleep then it's okay. It's more like a hostel rather than a hotel.

We didn't realize this was a hostel when we booked. We had our own room and bathroom but the bathroom had a showerhead on the wall next to the sink so there was water all over the bathroom floor whenever you showered. There were no toiletries, no hair dryer available, we had to request towels, there was no AC or... More

Loved the staff! We were greeted by the most bubbly and funny girl we have ever met. She was very helpful and friendly! The room was large, comfy, spacious, clean and with a fan that kept us relatively comfortable at night. However there was a street light right outside of our window so the room was lit up like dawn.... More

Upon arrival, I was upgraded to a private room even though I had booked the 4 mixed room just because Vincenzo is so nice. The place was very clean and the staff so nice. It helps Florence feel that much more welcoming. Highly recommend!!

The staff is really friendly and helpful, moreover the location is excellent infact you can have every important place in Florence in 5 minutes walk. The hotel is at the second floor of a palace with no elevator. Rooms are clean and really small, especially the bathroom. You can have breakfast in your room since the staff bring it from... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
