Good things first: great location. Walking distance to duomo, train station, lorenzo or the leather goods market. Staff good in english. That is worth a 4 star. Breakfast is average, but ok. Others are just annoyingly run down. Lift is extremely slow and hot. Aircon makes more noise than cooling the place. We had to ask for a spare fan... More

Hotel Nizza has a great staff who are very helpful. It's located between the train station and the Doumo--or center of historic area. Rooms are clean, air conditioning works well, and bathrooms are quite adequate. There is an elevator but I'd recommend it for luggage only as it is SLOW and very warm when we were there. Breakfast was very... More

I visited in September 2013 (not 2014) when the UCI World Road Cycle Championships were held in Florence so we got less rooms than initially booked for our travel party so a tight squeeze but fantastically Italian, that classic style. The location was fantastic we were within walking distance of everything that we needed. Again a budget hotel but nice... More

Excellent location 2minutes from both the train station and Il Duomo, wonderful friendly and helpful staff, decent breakfast to set you up for the day, comfortable, quiet rooms and all in a nice old, but well kept building.

very nice and clean. Staff was very friendly. rooms were good. We stayed there with a group of American students, and I heard no complaints. As usual, in Italy they don't believe in air-conditioning like we do in America. We are convinced that the ac's are just "dummy-boxes" that make the sound of an ac and do no real work... More

My friend and I spent 3 nights in this hotel, the room was small but clean and there was hardly any noise although there was a very busy street just a stone throw away. The Air Con was working, the staff was very friendly and helpful apart from a tired looking lady receptionist who warmed up to us a bit... More

We only stayed one night for a short visit to Florence. This hotel is very close to the train station and a short walk to the major tourist attractions. The manager at the desk was very helpful with good recommendations for walking routes and restaurants,(the good local non-toursit places) It is not fancy, but for the price it is very good.... More

We chose a hotel near the train station for convenience. The hotel is in the middle of everything. We could easily walk where ever we wanted to go. Of all the hotels we stayed in during our trip, this hotel has the best breakfast. Would stay here again.

The hotel is located perfectly for a short trip to Florence. A 15 min walk from the train station and within walking distance of the major attractions - the Cathedral, Ponte Vecchio, etc. It is right ina the middle of a bustling shopping district as well so food options are abundant. The hotel rooms are small but comfortable. Breakfast is... More

I picked this hotel because it was close to the train station as I was travelling by train with my friends. It is tiny room with 3 beds, you can hardly open the suitcase. Shower booth is hard to turn around without hitting wall as it is so tiny. WIFI is very poor connection. Worst of all, the last day... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
