The hotel was in a great location, just a 10 minute walk to Florence Centre(Duomo) but just far enough that you dont feel like your surrounded by tourists. There is a great supermarket 2 minute walk from the hotel where you can buy cheap water, wine, beer and fresh fruit, meats, cheese and prepared sandwiches etc. The staff at Il... More

My experience at Hotel il Granduca was a great one and I would definitely recommend others to consider this place if they're visiting Florence. Within a 10-15-minute walk from the main tourist attractions, this quaint hotel provides a serene setting that is great for those who want a peaceful night's sleep. The hotel's owner, Sergio, is available every morning [making... More

Stayed at this hotel on a recent visit to Florence. Although the facility is old, the hospitality was awesome. My bed was not especially comfortable, but that was muted by the kind staff. Further, the location was very convenient. Would visit again.

Located about 15-walk from center, this is a quiet little world on it's own. Hotel Il Granduca is in a residence area with trattoria, bar and a supermarket in its surrounding. Staffs are friendly, helpful and with fine-taste which makes the stay in the hotel or the city-sightseeing very memorable. I'd come back if chances allow.

We got here by chance as our booking at another place was cancelled! The hotel has a very warm feel and chaira the hostess was fabulous! She went out of her way to show us the shortest possible routes as well as make advance bookings for us! We'd definitely revisit!

We were originally booked into the II Granduca for 3 nights but decided to extend our stay by another night because we had such a great time in Florence. The hotel was located a short walk from the centre of the tourist area and was really great value for money. We had an excellent sized room on the top floor.... More

This hotel in the north of the city has a real old world feel to it, carefully nurtured by the owner. He is a charming man who takes a real interest in the running of the property. The rooms are individually furnished with carefully chosen items. And you still get a key for the door, rather than a piece of... More

This little hotel is well run by very warm and helpful hotel personnel which made our experience in Florence a wonderful one for my husband and me. Kudos to Chiara and Paulo ( both speak English) who was extremely helpful in giving us information about getting on the bus, places to visit and where to eat. They were friendly and... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
