We booked this hotel through tourist info. It is very close to the railway station which is extremely handy and overlooks a large interesting piazza. We were hot and sweaty as it was about 38 degrees and also somewhat flustered. The gentleman at reception was most kind and helpful. I use the term gentleman in its true sense. He was... More

The location of this hotel is it's best selling point. It is very close to the train station and most other attractions are easy to get to from there. I couldn't honestly call this a 4 star hotel - I think a decent 3 star is closer. The staff were pleasant and our room was clean but the shower was... More

I'm so sorry I don't appreciate the room. The historical one of our Palace. This is a very little hotel. Many people like. Thank you. More

Positives: -staff friendly and helpful -in a perfect location close to major attractions and train station -lots of cafes and restaurants outside the hotel -breakfast was good. I liked the balcony. Negatives: -it was very noisy at night as our room was facing the piazza but we asked to be moved and the room at the back was better

This hotel has nice sized rooms elegantly decorated; has comfortable beds, very nice buffet breakfast in small breakfast area as well as on the veranda. We are used to 3-star hotels; this is a 4-star. Requires electronic card in reader to keep the electricity flowing. The AC was a little weak, but after a shower, it was sufficient to cool... More

Arriving unprepared we were guided to this Hotel by the TI office. Ansel has been a pleasure to deal with and Room 105 has a fantastic view of the square. Access to the railway station was one of our primary concerns as this was just a stop in our Italian travels and we couldn't get much closer. Breakfast on the... More

Our room faced the western wall, so it was hotter in our room then it was outside! AC would only run for 30 minutes and quit. Front desk clerk said all the rooms were the same. Had to get up in the middle the night to take a shower to cool down. Wi-Fi didn't work in the room and barely... More

We stayed here for 3 nights and it's in a lovely square right next to the Santa Maria novella. The location is very convenient - you can walk to ponte vecchio, to the markets and to the duomo and if you caught the train to get to Florence you can walk to this hotel, it's literally across the road. Our... More

We stayed at this hotel for a few days while traveling around Italy. Here are some pros and cons: Pros: Location- convenient if you are traveling by train or bus. Also only takes 5 minutes to walk to city center and you are within a 15-20 minute walk of all sites Wifi: they had reasonable wifi in the room which... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
