The Hotel San Giovanni is in a very old building literally on the Piazza del Duomo. We walked from the Florence railway station with our suitcases in 10 minutes. There is a tiny old elevator which can take your luggage up a few flights to the hotel. We initially had a rather large room complete with a renaissance fresco in... More

Great location. Traditional and quaint hotel. Needs updating a bit, but functional and clean. Nice big room for myself, husband and daughter. Very happy with three night stay. Breakfast nice. Walls quite thin and can hear neighbouribg rooms, but no problems Would stay there again.

We stayed in the annex next to San Lorenzo Church. We were a block from the Duomo, our favorite restaurant Zaza for dinner & the Mercato Centrale for breakfast and easy walking distance to most major attractions. Our room was clean, the bed comfortable and the private bathroom that we requested just fine. It was nice to have a shared... More

Great location next to Duomo and Baptistery. We were actually in the annex a block away in San Lorenzo square. A bit confusing upon arrival as there is no ground level reception. You have to buzz the button next to the gate to have them open it then go up 4 floors to the hotel. When you arrive there is... More

Using Trivago search this hotel lists under "Room feature" Bathroom with shower so we booked for 4 nights to enjoy Florence. Upon arrival at 6:45 PM we found a small room with a SHARED bathroom and shower 30 feet down the hall. Trying to discuss with employee was treated very rudely. With no place else to stay we decided to... More

The nicest thing about this place is the feeling of joy when you leave! Thread bear sheets, broken tiles to ensure a broken neck when you stacked it, a sheet for the ceiling in the bathroom, pieces of material masking as towels and a toilet that's only suitable to sit on if you sit on a 45 degree angles so... The place is literally on the door steps of the Cathedral. Our window overlooks the campanille and commanding view of the busy streets. We all woke up hearing the church bells which served as our alarm! High ceilings with remnants of some frescoes which unfortunately was only discovered after chipping the black soot after centuries of candle smoke (per Umberto's... More

What a delightfully pleasant experience. Here 6 nights, enjoyed it always. Very accommodating, and relaxing. We like to wake in the morning slowly and take our time. Here the coffee was wonderful, and there were croissants and yoghurt to accompany. Then in the evening back for a little wine before dinner. Very mello,

We stayed at the Annex of the hotel which was only 3 mins walk to Duomo. It was in a historical building which was good. The hotel is in a very convenient location. many shops and stores nearby. We could even see the Duomo from our room. Got many nice restaurants around..and also gelato! The room condition is good. Comfortable... More

We stayed for 3 nights in early September. A basic but great little hotel if you want a comfortable night's sleep but intend to spend most of your time outside. We stayed in room 5 which has great views of the Duomo cathedral and square. The rooms are big with high ceilings and huge windows. Would stay here again -... More

Staying in San Lorenzo

Neighborhood Profile
San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo’s lively merchants shout out from behind stalls with an array of products in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Florence. Different ethnic groups join together in the large outdoor market of San Lorenzo and in the Central Market, a vast multi-floored building. Visitors are bound to fall in love with this area and in particular, with its variety of food, especially those focusing on Florentine dishes as well as international selections. Nobody leaves San Lorenzo without a shopping bag in hand or with an empty stomach.
