Cute hotel in an incredible location, right next to the Duomo. The owner is very friendly and helpful. Clean and nice set up. We had a share bathroom which was down the hall but it is able to be locked so it is very private. Only issue was the lack of air conditioning which makes it extremely hot in the... More

I've stayed here a few times and find it hard to beat the location and value. It's ina really old building with a tiny little elevator to get up there and all the rooms share a few bathrooms but I've never had to wait for a toilet or shower. The staff is always very friendly and helpful and seriously you... More

We stayed 4 nights at Hotel San Giovanni and we enjoyed it a lot. Could hardly have asked for a better location as we were placed in their annex with a view overlooking the San Lorenzo square. The owner, Umberto, was ver friendly and inviting and offered to help us with any bookings and arrangements we required. The only complaints... More

Room literally looked over the duomo. No frills hotel, room was spacious, clean and had a bathroom (not attached). Room wasn't anything fancy but it was charming and cute. Staff were friendly and accomodating. If you want an unforgettable location look no further! Wifi was a little dodgy at times though.

We had 4 nights here in April. The location in fantastic as once you exit the building you are in the middle of Florence. The room we had was huge and with an ensuite. The view out the window is also great. However the rooms, like the building itself, are about 400 years old so whilst adequate are not fancy. It... More

This hotel was probably built when the Duomo was built. It's so old! For someone who's used to staying in modern places - I would love to see this hotel get a renovation because the location is unbeatable. The floors were creaky, the decoration was grandma-like, and everything was wooden. The double bed was also just two twin beds pushed... More

This little gem of a hotel is right, and I mean right at the centre of Florence. It is a short walk from the train station, the vegetable market, the leather market, and good restaurants, We could see the Duomo from out window. In the morning, when we had the shutters and windows open, the bells from the cathedral filled... More

Travelled: September 2013 I LOVED staying here! I was super excited about our stay in Florence and Humberto did not disappoint one bit! We had a lovely balcony with the Duomo right on our doorstep. Being new to this travelling business, we were very nervous about approaching anyone for help but Humberto was incredibly welcoming and helpful. I am looking... More

Fantastic location, just a short and easy walk down from the train station. Especially when you arrive after dark. Staff member Umberto was so friendly and welcoming, always wishing us well when we were coming/going. The rooms open up to face the Duomo, couldn't ask for better! It was in the perfect location to head out sightseeing for the day... More

Hotel San Giovanni was our first stop in our Florence trip. I figured it would be easy to find from the train station and I was right. Staff member Umberto was helpful with all details and we slept like a rock. WiFi was accessible via the front gathering room. Bedroom was a large but bathroom a little bit scary. Great... More

Staying in San Lorenzo

Neighborhood Profile
San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo’s lively merchants shout out from behind stalls with an array of products in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Florence. Different ethnic groups join together in the large outdoor market of San Lorenzo and in the Central Market, a vast multi-floored building. Visitors are bound to fall in love with this area and in particular, with its variety of food, especially those focusing on Florentine dishes as well as international selections. Nobody leaves San Lorenzo without a shopping bag in hand or with an empty stomach.
