This hotel is in an old building in a very central area. Close to everything you want to visit, all walking distance. The lady at the front desk is very friendly and helpful. Affordable prices as they can be flexible with your budget, which is an unusual kindness in the business :) the rooms are very clean and with a... More

Abaco operates from the second floor of a centuries-old palace, and guests climb stairs to the second floor because elevators cannot be installed in this historical building (the website advises this information, so no one should complain). The rooms are small, like many European hotels, and are beautifully decorated, each with artwork of a prominent artist (try to get the... More

Hotel Abaco has a terrific location very close to nice restaurants, gelato, shopping, train station, the duomo, and sunset bridges. Our room was spacious for 4 people. We didn't realize that Florence has a large no-driving zone downtown, which made getting to it difficult, but driving in Florence in general is a bad idea. This would be ideal for anyone... More

Although this is a wonderful hotel for families, young people and couples, I've been there eight times with large groups of students. It is my favorite hotel ever. I discovered Abaco in 2005 when planning a travel course to Italy, and we've returned every time. You can see the nearby Duomo from the entrance, and everything in the center of... More

Bruno is the BEST!!!! He is funny, very simpatico, makes you feel very comfortable. I recommend this place to everyone. He will take care of you. Hotel is very close to the train station and is easy to walk to everything for tourists and is easy to get here from the airport

Don't expect the Savoy with this small but ideally located hotel, I would consider it more as a B&B. My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights recently, it is only 5 minutes to the central rail station in Florence, with all the main attractions and high street stores and numerous bars and restaurants just a short stroll away.... My three friends and I stayed here as part of a trip around Europe via the train. The room was comfortable, and the breakfast, although simple, was good. More importantly, the hotel is located in the center of tourist Florence, mere blocks from all the major attractions such as the Duomo (200 yards down the road), the river, and the... More

Stayed for a couple of nights early July. Great location being fairly central. The rooms are small but clean. Tiny bathroom but functional. Air con, wi-fi and breakfast all included. All in all not disappointed and good value for money

We would stay again, but here are the pros and cons Pros: • Located near the Duomo - just a block or two away • Clean • Good value Cons: • Many stairs up • The rooms open onto a central, small, eating area. You hear people outside your door • The staff did not speak good english ( if you care... More

My husband and I stayed here for four nights during the first half of our Italy vacation. We chose the Abaco because of its value and great location, and on the personal recommendation of our daughter and son-in-law. It proved to be a good choice for us. We could easily walk to all the major sights, as well as to/from... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
