Back again this summer to our Hotel Merlini in Florence for another refreshing stay in one of the world's great centers of art and beauty! Merlini is a delightful, cool, clean and lovely family-run hotel just around the corner from the train station, on a cobblestone street ended by coffee shops and situated just two blocks from the Mercato Centrale.... I am an american study abroad student who visited Florence for one night. I loved this hotel, and especially the staff, who were very friendly. I felt like I was at home with my own family. I especially liked the older lady who held the door open at any time that my group showed up, she was very nice and... More

Nothing particularly wrong with the place, other than feeling the effects of age a bit. No lift, so you need to walk up 3 flights of stairs. Some problems with the booking system: we selected a double room as opposed to a twin room, we we got a twin. They showed us the sale information that budgetplaces sends them, and... More

My friend and I, 2 women in the 50's, stayed here in Sept. 2013. We had a beautiful view of the Duomo because of the 3rd floor location. Even though my girlfriend has trouble with stairs, we were travelling light so the absence of a lift was not a problem. We had a private bathroom and the beds were comfortable.... More

This hotel is basic but perfect for a budget stay. The rooms are large and the beds are comfortable. It is located a 5 minute walk from the main station and is easily navigated from anywhere in the city. It's close to everything! The owners are very nice and although you have to ring the bell for entry, they're very... More

The Hotel Merlini is just the sort of place we love to stay. It is a family run 'pensione' with shared bathing facilities, although we did have a sink in our room which is very useful for shaving and teeth cleaning. The family members spoke little English, but we communicated well enough, there are books left by other travellers in... More

I stayed with my family,2 adults and 2 kids in the month of June. The location is excellent, just 5 mins from the main train station. It is on the 3rd floor, with out lift, and thats the only drawback. The family who runs the property are very cooperative and helpful. Rooms were big and clean, basic would be the right word. Please dont hesitate... More

From the pictures on the website and the TA reviews this sounded like a great budget option for our stay in Florence. We paid 75 euros/night for a double with a shared bathroom and breakfast each morning, which seemed reasonable compared to prices elsewhere. We booked directly with the hotel as we specifically wanted the room overlooking the duomo, however... More

The best part about the hotel was the location. We took many day trips from Florence and it was a five minute walk to the train station. It was also a ten minute walk down to the duomo. The room and bed were clean but the family who owns the hotel smokes in the hotel and you could smell it... More

Staying in San Lorenzo

Neighborhood Profile
San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo’s lively merchants shout out from behind stalls with an array of products in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Florence. Different ethnic groups join together in the large outdoor market of San Lorenzo and in the Central Market, a vast multi-floored building. Visitors are bound to fall in love with this area and in particular, with its variety of food, especially those focusing on Florentine dishes as well as international selections. Nobody leaves San Lorenzo without a shopping bag in hand or with an empty stomach.
