I am sorry .I do not like to give negative reviews but my abiding memory of Hotel Merlini is of the 88 steep steps to get there and the strong smell of stale cigarettes. The room itself is comfortable enough but cleanliness could be improved. We had a room at the back which was unfortunate as there is currently a... More

The hotel was at walking distance from Mercanto and train station but there was a bumpy stretch of road to the hotel if you are walking with your luggage. And it was at the third storey which was about 5 or 6 flights of stairs to the hotel. Probably good for those traveling light as there was no lift to... More

I was really pleasantly surprised by how good this hotel was. I had booked what seemed like a good price for Florence but expected the hotel to be fairly worn and creaky. However, I found an extremely clean and beautifully furnished hotel, with an excellent shower and comfortable beds. Other useful extras were toiletries, a TV, a mosquito net and... More

The place was clean and owners were personable and very nice. Towels were replaced clean and fresh everyday. One cupboard has a key to lock. Value for money. Note: have to climb 4 floors though. However do not expect hotel service. It's really a guesthouse in the home of a nice family. Some rooms do not seem to have ensuite... More

Five minutes from Sta. Maria Novella Station. The hotel was nice and basic which was just what we needed for our very busy Florence itinerary. Everything in the room seemed 'vintage' which meshed well with the entire city. The hotel is in a building along with other hotels. It is located on the third floor with no elevators. There is... Back again this summer to our Hotel Merlini in Florence for another refreshing stay in one of the world's great centers of art and beauty! Merlini is a delightful, cool, clean and lovely family-run hotel just around the corner from the train station, on a cobblestone street ended by coffee shops and situated just two blocks from the Mercato Centrale.... I am an american study abroad student who visited Florence for one night. I loved this hotel, and especially the staff, who were very friendly. I felt like I was at home with my own family. I especially liked the older lady who held the door open at any time that my group showed up, she was very nice and... More

Nothing particularly wrong with the place, other than feeling the effects of age a bit. No lift, so you need to walk up 3 flights of stairs. Some problems with the booking system: we selected a double room as opposed to a twin room, we we got a twin. They showed us the sale information that budgetplaces sends them, and... More

My friend and I, 2 women in the 50's, stayed here in Sept. 2013. We had a beautiful view of the Duomo because of the 3rd floor location. Even though my girlfriend has trouble with stairs, we were travelling light so the absence of a lift was not a problem. We had a private bathroom and the beds were comfortable.... More

Staying in San Lorenzo

Neighborhood Profile
San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo’s lively merchants shout out from behind stalls with an array of products in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Florence. Different ethnic groups join together in the large outdoor market of San Lorenzo and in the Central Market, a vast multi-floored building. Visitors are bound to fall in love with this area and in particular, with its variety of food, especially those focusing on Florentine dishes as well as international selections. Nobody leaves San Lorenzo without a shopping bag in hand or with an empty stomach.
