This is a conveniently located no-frills family hotel in Florence. We only stayed one night for our 24 hours in Florence, and the hotel more than met our needs. It is about a five minute walk to see David at the Academia, a 15 minute walk to the Duomo, and a 25 minute walk to the Ufizzi. We visited in... More

Hotel Giglio is a 3 Star hotel with 5 Star attitude! The owners Marco and Manuela are fantastic. They are accommodating and helpful. They really know how to provide top hotel service. Also, Luca at the front desk provided so much information and recommendations that were great. If you are going to Florence this hotel should be your hotel, the... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Giglio. The location was perfect and the graciousness of the owners made the experience that much more enjoyable. We were greeted initially by Roberto, who welcomed us when we arrived late at night. The next morning we enjoyed a lovely breakfast and conversation with Manuela and Marco. They were incredibly kind and helpful... More

Very knowledgable and accomodating staff whether it be directions, information, calling a cab or helping with our luggage. Walking distance to Doumo and most main attractions. Clean, nice continental breakfast. Was very happy with my this and would absolutely return!

like other reviews, we loved this hotel. Charming, welcoming, comfortable and clean. We stayed three nights - we moved from room 19 (street side) to room 10 (bigger with large bathroom) as the noise from the street was a bit loud for us given we had been travelling a lot and needed to catch up on some sleep. Staff were... More

We loved this hotel. Charming, welcoming, comfortable and clean. We liked the fact that it was close enough to the city center, but on a quiet street. The staff could not have been more attentive or helpful. It is a special place, and fantastic value for the money. Cannot recommend more highly.

I cannot recall another hotel where the staff were so friendly and helpful. It took me 20 minutes to walk from the hotel to the main sdquare and the Duomo. It was my first visit to Florence and the staff were a mine of information on everything I needed to know If like me you wish to visit the opera... More

Solo Australian traveller - I stayed in a single room with a single bed, but room was spacious, and bathroom and bedroom very clean. Breakfast was nice. Marco, his wife and his brother are wonderful hosts, and so welcoming and could not do enough to help all their guests, nothing was a bother. As they are the owners, I guess... More

4 women travelling together in a quad room - tight but comfortable. We all liked the continental breakfast very much and found we could walk anywhere in Florence from here, but being a few blocks out of the main tourist area the street is relatively quiet. Especially convenient for Accademia and Duomo. Staff was generous with time and gave excellent... More

We first discovered the Giglio 3 years ago and have returned on our recent trip to Florence. As I've stated elsewhere in my reviews, if you are the Hilton / Sheraton type of person then the small, quaint family bed and breakfast / pension is not your thing. If, like us, you prefer a slice of local life and the... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
