We had stayed in this hotel about 5 years prior to our trip and were very pleased to stay here again. This time we booked the tower room. Basically an elevator takes you to the 5th floor and it is then quite a hike to the very top of the tower (60 steps). Because the stairs are so narrow and... more

The reviews on this hotel vary wildly. It is the oldest hotel in Florence and the 2nd oldest hotel in Italy, and that should tell you something. This place has a lot of old world character. That sounds great but most of us are used to modern properties. We are a family of 4 with two teen boys (16 &... more

Stayed here one night due to our flight being cancelled. It was probably the last available room in Florence that night and they didn't rip us off at all on the price, for which we are grateful - most other room providers took full advantage of the situation to rip off our fellow travellers in the same situation that night.... more

The Grand Porta Rossa is a hotel that was once a large private home in the 1500’s. The hotel is located on a pedestrian street a couple of blocks from the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio. It is on Via Porta Rossa east of Ponte Santa Trinita (which becomes Via de Tomabuoni (Use Google Map to locate). This location is close... more

We should have read the reviews before we booked but ptnr had stayed theye 20 years ago when it was nice. (apparently) Staff are the most unprofessional, unfriendly, miserable people we have ever met. They should all be shot or completely retrained from scratch The management team should be ashamed of itself. Rooms less than basic - beds not very... more

Based on previous mixed reviews of this hotel, I was uneasy as to what my friend and I would find. However, we had an excellent stay at this hotel, and it deserves a good write up. For starters, it is the oldest hotel in Florence and seems to be an amalgamation of 2 or 3 old buildings, each w/ different... more

Decided on a whim to spend a short two night break in Florence. We had been staying up in the mountains of Tuscany for the previous week and thought it would be nice to see the sounds and sounds of the wonderful city of Florence. Alas it was our misfortune to stumble across the Porta Rossa Hotel. Words to describe... more

My sister treated me to a week end break in Florence knowing it's my favourite city in Europe (probably worldwide ). I was thrilled of course but her little 'find' for our short stay was great This hotel supposed to be the oldest 'inn' of Florence was so convenient - all the down sides, of which there were a few,... more

This hotel could be a really nice place if the management didn't have such a one-star attitude about it. It's in an excellent location, and is a grand old historic building, but the hotel fails to provide the most basic service any hotel should provide, which is to ensure a good night's sleep to its guests. On a Saturday night... more

We were recommended this hotel by a collegue and booked for 3 nights but unfortunately it was a complete disaster. On arrival in the room it was very large and cold and not 'antique' as we were advised, we asked if there were anymore rooms available but others we were shown were small and dark so we stuck with the... more
