We booked a 9 night trip to Italy (Rome, Florence and Venice) through Gate 1 Travel. We have used them before, and have always had excellent arrangements and nice hotels, especially for the fantastic prices. All three of our hotels on this trip were more than acceptable, but the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo was fantastic! The room and bathroom were spacious... more

Pros: Big hotel with all the amenities, speak english Cons: My room had broken AC, location is kinda far from eveything, not good value Ok, this was 2nd hotel on our Gate 1 Affordable Italy tour. It's on the larger side, much like a commerical city Marriott hotel with conference rooms, restaurant, conceirge, etc. Ok so the bad things, snice... more

This hotel offers great value and service. The daily breakfast is very good and the service is first rate. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and we didn't notice any noise at all. There are lots of tour groups coming and going but the efficient and friendly front desk staff keeps things moving. The lobby is very nice with a... more

On arriving at the Mediterraneo, the check in staff was very functional, and not friendly at all. After we got to our room, we determined that the wireless internet was not working. So, I went to call the front desk, and the phone didn't work. I had to go down 5 flights of stairs (elevators were VERY slow) to get... more

Decent size, clean and well maintained. Bit of a distance to the city center and tourist sites. Room including bathroom was satisfactory, neat and clean. Breakfast buffet was a limited spread. Hotel was extremely crowded, indicating its high popularity with foreign tourists. more

Room was nice size. Buffet breakfast was "European" typical. Breads, cereals, yogurt, eggs (not scrambled long enough), assorted meats and cheeses. Staff was a little "stiff". Not very helpful or friendly on first day. Maybe that shift was having a bad day. Next day staff was better. Across the street from park and river that runs through Florence. About a... more

Although distant from the city centre, the walk into town along the River Arno is amazing. The rooms although small are very clean and comfortable but our greatest praise was for all the staff who were so helpful and understanding. Some of our possesions were left behind and were returned that day by registered post. Many thanks for a good... more

My wife and I stayed at the Grand Hotel Mediterraneo as part of a Trafalgar tour (Italian Holiday). The hotel was nice and clean, but the room and shower were extremely small. I’m only 6 feet tall, 180 pounds was very cramped in the shower. The hotel was relatively close to the attractions and walking distance to a wonderful restaurant... more

We were sadly disappointed in our stay here...we were with a tour group travelling Italy for 2 weeks and stayed in several hotels throughout Italy, this one has seen better days. We're not picky people and understood the difference in Italian hotels vs American but this one is clearly not a 5 star - maybe a 2.5 on a good... more

Florence has lots of hotels -- why stay in such an ordinary one? The lobby suggests grandeur that the rooms don't match -- when we opened the door we nearly tripped over the bed. I've never stayed in such a small, drab hotel room. Even worse, the walls are paper thin, and the rooms face a small courtyard that magnifies... more
