Had another great stay at the Montebello Splendid. We all loved the bar and our New Years dinner. Our rooms were very nice and what we expected in a traditional five star hotel. The people are super friendly and everyone enjoys the breakfast. It is a walk from the main city center but that is what we enjoy about it.

I stayed here with my elderly parents (I upgraded them to a suite while I had a regular room). I sent my wife there on her own as well. This is a quaint boutique hotel away from the city centre. It is a 20 minute walk to the main piazza. I am of Italian descent and speak Italian so I... More

They accepted a booking but failed to tell us that their well know restaurant was closed for renovations. Room service which is all they offer right now is very limited to the point that the chicken and lettuce sandwich is on stale bread with neither oil or mayo to perk it up. 5 star hotels don't usually dupe people, but... Dear Stephanie J, I’m very sorry for your disappointment and I apologize for the lack of service you had during your stay with us. Unfortunately we had no chance to inform you in advance that our restaurant was closed from 7 to 10 January (4 days) for extraordinary maintenance; The decision was taken by myself on the 2nd January considering... The hotel is elegant, beautiful and comfortable with spacious, large rooms and bathrooms. The service from the front desk staff is great. The breakfast is overpriced and only mediocre. The location is near enough to the train station to be convenient, but not too close so it's outside the seedy area. The location included valet parking for those that have... More

Actually İ did my reservation theough booking.com and i was mistaken by the hotel pictures placed on web and what i was up to was so different then what i had expected. Hotel is a 3 story 5 star but barely makes you feel so. The staff are very snobbish and aggressive and old. The breakfast buffet was very poor.... More

Dear Nesteren, thank you for staying at Montebello Splendid. I'm sorry we wern't able to sactisfy you in full, but there is no chance for our property boutique size property to compete with brand new hotels in Dubai. The concept of this old villa transformed into a buotique hotel (more than 100 years building) in an ancient town like Florence... More

This centrally located hotel is close to the Arno River adjacent to the American Consulate. It is extremely well maintained. It offers a free breakfast with the room, we would rate it as adequate, but not excellent. The one evening meal we had at the hotel was very tasty Tuscan fair but rather slow and poor service detracted from the... More

This is a gorgeous, well appointed property with nice but not overtly spacious rooms. The location is out of the tourist sprawl but close enough to the station and the centrico to be serviceable. The restaurant is excellent. The service is professional at all levels, but here's the part where you have to listen, the staff can be disdainful. Several... More

The staff was very helpful - they arranged a tour for us, called taxis, etc. The chambermaid was wonderful and entertaining. We were fortunate to be upgraded to a junior suite. It was a large, comfortable suite, but just a bit tired (the sofa bed was broken). There were no windows in the traditional sense, but there was natural light... More

Totally enjoyed our stay in this hotel, the Staff was very accommodating and the restaurant had a great chef. The servers in the restaurant area are Donato and Maximo, both are awesome and really make you feel special. Donato especially will treat you like family. The room was very nicely appointed and very quiet, especially for the great location. The... More

The hotel is all one would expect of a five star rating with two exceptions. There is no 110 volt outlet in the room and front desk cannot provide transformers. The shower is very contemporary with about a 3/4 inch lip. Unfortunately, the shower drains so slowly, one must take a very fast shower to avoid having water spill over... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
