This hotel is an easy five minute walked from the main train station of the city. Helpful staff who were more than happy to help us book a last minute tour. The buffet breakfast is small and could probably do with some improvement in the fruit category but it is enough. Our room was old and basic with no coffee... More

Upon check in I have been given the room I originally booked, but once I opened the door it was obvious that the room had not been cleaned after the previous guest checked out. I went to the reception desk where I have been informed that HSK must have missed to clean this room. As nobody was on duty to... More

We spent 2 weeks in Florence - all at this hotel. It was fine. The staff members were excellent; the location is quite good; the room (3rd floor in the back) was quiet. It's not a 5-Star hotel, but we could never afford one of those anyway! You must walk 10-12 steps to get to the elevator (which is VERY... More

Recently stayed in this pleasant hotel, after a very stressful delayed journey we where greeted by very friendly & helpful staff. Room comfortable & very clean. Breakfast offered a good choice food. Lovely location for many of Florence's attractions Ponte Vecchio, Duomo & Uffizi, which are within walking distance. Also very near main railway station, which makes visiting other areas... More

Hotel had a terrible smell everywhere. We did not get good sleep here. The room was very cold, they did not allow us to turn on the heater at first. Blankets and sheets were thin, and old. Lots of stairs, but gentleman at front desk helped us carry the luggage. Breakfast was ok, not great. Juice from concentrate, and canned... More

The photos posted by management are very misleading. The hotel is rundown, and the common areas have a discomforting odor (like kitty litter, or a public restroom). Our room, especially the bathroom, was freezing cold. My main issue was the lack of heating. The heater in our room was locked by the hotel in "off" position, I had to go... More

Hotel good location for 1st time Visitors to florence.. It is very near firenze SMN station, and walking distance where u can join the hop-on-hop-off buses to go around beautiful Florence. The room we had is the old one, i heard they have the renovated ones. The bed is single bed- small side also. Not very comfortable.. Although The price... More

This hotel was very basic however somewhere to lay your head after a VERY busy day sightseeing was more than we required.A fantastic breakfast was laid on more than enough to see us through the day. Unfortunately my trip was interrupted by nasty bites from mosquitos on day two BUT!!! I must say the hotel staff were absolutely incredible with... More

Very welcoming, even used our first names. Very clean and staff easy to talk to. Room service excellent. Would have likes coffee making facilities but there is a fridge bar. Room rather small, but large bed, very comfortable and room only needed for rest and facilities so adequate. Shower excellent! Clean linen as requested, also excellent service. Breakfast good and... Pro: - excellent location, close to almost everything in Florence - large room - helpful staff, we received city map - quiet room Con: - we were charged on Booking for 1st night, before arrival! - breakfast lacked diversity for vegetarians/vegans - oldish building (maybe pro?) - Wi fi did not have great signal in the room

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
