It's good if you need to catch the train in the early morning or if you're on a budget but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it. It's dark, dirty and looks like it need some maintenance. Rooms are small and only have some plastic slides you need to assembly to create a shower. Some people may find it weird hallways quirky... More

Loved the ambiance of staying in a 700 plus year old building that is a great location and value. Central to much of Florence's attractions. Staff was outstanding and helpful in planning trips from Florence to other Tuscan towns.

Built in 1800, this IS NOT the 4 Seasons. It is true Tuscany charm and warmth. 1 block from Santa Maria Novella train station and walking distance to all attractions, Hotel Bonciani could easily stop there. But they don't. Warm friendly staff who accommodate last minute changes, full daily breakfasts (7-10 am) and a true feel for the 19th century... More

Although situated not far from some main attractions this hotel is not in a particularly nice street. The photo's online are misleading, they must have used extremely strong lighting as the main entrance/reception is very dark and dreary. My room must have been the worst in the hotel, very small, in need of decoration and the shower was so small... More

*Very well located: it's in the very center of Florence, 1min away from the Santa Maria Novella Train Station *The people at the reception are very welcoming and friendly *The price is EXTREMELY cheap I paid 35€ for the night ( whereas the other hotels were at least at 65€ ) !! * I got over-classed :) I got a... Even though the proximity to the train station was great, it is also close to key tourism activities. Everything is very walkable from here. The room was quiet at night. Breakfast was nothing special -- I really wish they could figure out milk and yogurt are supposed to be kept cold, not tepid, but that appears to be consistent with... More

Did not enjoy this hotel. Overpriced. Only advantage is the location. Very close to the train station and dome. However the hotel is really really dated. Air conditioning was bad. Carpets stink. Try to avoid if possible. Breakfast is not good.

The Hotel Bonciani Palazzo Pitti Broccardi is in the heart of the city of Florence. It is just a few blocks from the major train terminal Santa Maria Novella and a few blocks from the imposing and large duomo Cathedral di Di Santa Maria del Fiore. The Hotel is comfortable, very convenient and staff very helpful. Many attractions are clsoe... More

This is the worst case of representation I have seen! On the Travel Republic website it shows photo of a 'bright, airy but quaint hotel, which looked quite grand at the entrance door and in some of the bedroom shots. The truth is far from that! The scalloped curtains shown in the front window were filthy and had fallen off... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
