The Hotel Morandi Alla Crocetta was perfect for our family of four (two teenagers). It's about a 10 - 15 minute walk from the train station and only 5 minutes from the Duomo. The hotel is beautifully decorated with hints of it's religious history. Even though our room was right off of the reception area, it was quiet. We had... More

The hotel was charming and the staff was very helpful and gave great service. I loved the breakfast as well! We were able to walk to many places within 15 minutes. It is very close to the Accademia. The hotel staff were very helpful with questions and gave good recommendations for restaurants. Our luggage came a couple days after our... More

No complaints about this hotel, except that we could not stay longer! Just a short walk away from the Accademia, and a little further to the Duomo, this hotel's location could not have been better for our two-night stay in Florence. Loved the candy-stripe tiled bathroom! Very clean, comfortable, and quiet, with a friendly and helpful staff. I loved the... More

The outside may appear unprepossessing but, like many things in Florence, the inside has a timeless beauty and drips with atmosphere. We were referred by an acquaintance with long experience in Florence, who knows Paolo the proprietor ... you get the picture of a friends and family place where service is attentive and sincere. The location is excellent: only a... More

Beautiful hotel in a great location in Florence. Wonderful staff who are very accommodating, helpful and gracious. My room was lovely, with a nice little courtyard. Breakfasts were good and a lovely start to the day.

My husband and I returned to Hotel Morandi 21 years after our first visit as a young(er) couple, this time with our 16 and 19 year old teens. The hotel has retained it's charm and grace and is a quiet and tasteful retreat from the tourist frenzy of Firenze. Our rooms were comfortable, breakfasts were wonderful, the staff couldn't have... We stayed twice at this small Florence hotel in June, 2013. We chose 'upgraded' rooms, one of which had an original mural. Both rooms looked into the center of the building so there was no view but the beds were comfortable, the rooms were quiet, breakfast was good and the staff were helpful and friendly. There are various sitting areas... More

My daughter and I stayed at the Morandi for four nights in March 2013. We were very pleased with our room (the Balcony Room). The twin beds were comfortable, and we appreciated having a seating area in the room. We did not have an opportunity to use the balcony because it rained a lot while we were there. The breakfasts... We stayed 3 nights at the Morandi a few weeks ago at the beginning of a 3 week vacation in Italy. This was perhaps our sixth stay there over the past 29 years. It hasn't changed much -and that"s a good thing. The Morandi remains a quiet oasis in the middle of a busy city. It's always been, to my... More

We loved our beautiful room with its wood ceilings. The room was spacious and had a private patio. The staff was friendly and helpful and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the breakfast. The hotel was very quiet and conveniently located just a couple of blocks from the Accademia. It is on a graffiti-covered alley, but the street... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
