First of all, this hotel is not a 10 minute walk from the train station!! Not to mention the hotel is so far away that it is not even included on the map! The hotel itself was subpar- the staff spoke zero English and were very rude. The breakfast was nonexistent with only croissants and juice out of a machine... More

We found the location a little too far, would have liked to come back to change and then go for dinner. If we were tired and it got late there is no bus past 8:30 pm, so we spent too much on taxis. The hotel is just ok, the cleaning crew had all the laundry spread out outside the rooms... More

Free breakfast, very fast and efficient at the check in, the guy at front desk allowed us to check in early. Location is in the quiet neighborhood, walk 10 min from train station, very close to the river and it's nice to walk around the area. 30 min to the all the tourist sites. Free breakfast and hot breakfast was... More

A nice quiet comfortable hotel , within easy reach of Florence's landmarks approx 15- 20 minutes walk while we were there , there was an international food festival a great chance to taste foods from all over the world we ate at the Brazilian tent and it was delicious and reasonably priced

After spending hours trying to find a decent place in Florence that had parking I chose Hotel Ariele primarily because we were running out of time but also because I didn't want to spend €500-€700 per night. The location was great. Near the various consulates, the building is attractive and sits on wide streets. The day manager was a bit... More

we stayed here for 2 nights. The map assured us it was a five minute walk from the station...we managed to get lost and found ourselves in a very intimidating area of the city which as it turned out was the right area! the hotel was beautiful and the furnishing and decor was what we would've expected for Florence. The... More

Stayed 3 nights in September. I booked a triple single bed room (all that was available) for a great rate in comparison to area. Was pleased with room which was HUGE. Two of the beds were together to create a large double or queen which was very comfortable and unnoticeable that they were two beds. Location was great..20 minute walk... More

Spent 3 nights in September, first impressions not great, rude man at desk, left luggage cause we were 2 hours early to check in. Came back and checked in with no help to find our room in the confusing hotel, we found our room in a very dark hallway. Our room was not great but okay, air condition was no way... More

This is hotel like museum. All furniture, fittings and other in the hotel from the 50-70 years of the 19th century. This has its romanticism, but for me it is still a hotel, not a museum. Most troubled was the air with a touch of antiquity, dampness and oldness. I liked the special chic of this hotel, but for a... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
