Rather annoyingly, I have very high expectations and am a stickler for details when it comes to hotels and restaurants, and it is not very often that my expectations are EXCEEDED. But that is exactly what happened with this hotel on our recent trip to Italy. This is a great hotel AND an excellent value. What more can a traveler... More

We stayed here for 3 nights (8/3-8/6) and can't say enough about how wonderful this hotel was! The service, the rooms, and pool, and breakfast we just lovely. I would have only rated it 4 1/2 stars for two reasons though. The odd design of the shower made them leak (and this happened in both rooms- our kids stayed in... More

Hotel has nice rooms, great grounds and pool, helpful staff, and good location. Good access to the center of town and to driving into tuscany. Food was good, but expensive in hotel restaurant. Overall, great place to stay and access to city and region.

We stayed at the hotel as part of a Perrillo tour. The hotel was beautifully appointed, the room was spacious and immaculate and we enjoyed staying away from the busy center city (it's a quick cab ride or 20 minute walk) as we always enjoy eating in the non-tourist restaurants. The highlight was the service. We needed help in getting... More

On the good side, Villa Medici is in a good position near the railway and Florence centre. The staff are friendly. Unfortunately this is the only good points. The hotel is quite tired and although the room and bathroom were clean the windows were dirty and carpets grubby looking. The pool area is well looked after but quite small and... More

Beautiful hotel and great service! We loved our stay here. It was nice big rooms, classic interior, well kept and very clean. The bed were firm, but ok. The pillows was a bit to firm for my taste, but absolutely not a big problem considering everything else! Good breakfast, a bit overpriced considering that the selection was not that big,... More

This is a beautiful hotel close to the centre but away from the noise with a beautiful garden and comfortable rooms. It is important to ask for a room overlooking the garden. It is also very near the station (walking distance) if one wishes to go to Pisa or another place of interest. The Hotel has a courtesy limo service... More

Location is just a bit outside the center, but only a 5 min walk. Great and friendly staff. The concierge gave us the perfect suggestions for dinner; one really fancy and a lot real italian "osteria's" with good atphosmere and good food.

Great staff at front desk ( Alessio and Roberta), awesome pool area taken care of meticulously by Niccolo, 10 person rooftop terrace with views. Room was spacious and bath was extra large . On par with 4 Seasons property. Set back away from tourist area but close enough to walk anywhere in 20 mins. Excellent breakfast buffet.

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
