Location is just a bit outside the center, but only a 5 min walk. Great and friendly staff. The concierge gave us the perfect suggestions for dinner; one really fancy and a lot real italian "osteria's" with good atphosmere and good food.

Great staff at front desk ( Alessio and Roberta), awesome pool area taken care of meticulously by Niccolo, 10 person rooftop terrace with views. Room was spacious and bath was extra large . On par with 4 Seasons property. Set back away from tourist area but close enough to walk anywhere in 20 mins. Excellent breakfast buffet.

Great hotel only 10 min walk from the city centre. We were upgraded for free to a junior suite, although the room looked inwards and was somewhat dark, it had 2 bathrooms and was so quiet, not having to listen to the local Vespas!! Really comfortable and very clean. Wifi was excellent and free. We ate at the hotel and... More

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Medici for two nights as part of a road trip around Europe. We stayed in room 423 with a large balcony. Nice room but balcony needed better furniture to make use of it and the walls restrict the view. Good points about the hotel: Staff very friendly and helpful ( we did not find... More

I really did not connect with this hotel. It claims to be five stars but the staff is way too distant for that. I felt a bit like an intruder. Maybe this sounds strange, but as an experienced traveller I expect a hotel with this rating to be more welcoming. Room was not that special. And again: old fashioned keys... More

The hotel and staff were incredibly impressive. Room was somewhat small, all things considered. Didn't utilize it but the pool looked amazing. Restaurant was visually appealing but the menu lacked choices I'd really enjoy so we didn't eat there. Would definitely return again.

The staff was extremely helpful and the location was great, the rooms were nicely appointed and the A/C was FANTASTIC meaning it worked.... The breakfast buffet was average on a good day and apparently eggs should be served watery and cold.....YIKES

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
