The Monna Lisa is up a tiny little back street which gives little impression of the charming hotel. The staff were all excellent and the bar tender a real tonic. A nice little bedroom , perfect for what we needed. Good location - only a 20 minute stroll to te Uffizi and the Ponto Vecchio.

When you arrive in the narrow, slightly grim lane, you don't really know quite what to expect, but the reception staff give you a nice welcome & a quick check-in. Rooms vary and we were given what appeared to be a very old one which was probably a nun's cell with a beautiful ceiling and bathroom with a great-looking spa bath. BUT,there was... More

You won't be disappointed from the moment you check into the hotel to the reluctant moment you leave.. The perfect starting point to get to many of the must see sights of Florence. Beautiful rooms, fabulous breakfast with exceptional service. Watched our lovely friend at the front desk (met her last year) give a whole new meaning to multi-tasking. She... More

The Monna Lisa is a charming, clean and comfortable establishment in Florence proper. Wonderful staff, beautiful grounds, a great location for walking and a charming atmosphere make this a definite gem.

Returned to this delightful hotel after a three year gap but this time with my wife. Still the ideal hotel for exploring Florence, close to all the sights and even closer to a variety of excellent restaurants. The garden is a hidden treasure, the ideal spot to rest your legs and enjoy a good book. Staff all very friendly and... More

The Monna Lisa is charming, and perfectly located. We were within close proximity to The Duomo, Uffizi and Accademia. The staff was very accommodating, and made our museum reservations for us. The breakfast was both elegantly presented and absolutely delicious!!

The hotel was huge covering 3 different buildings...centrally located wihin walking distance to all mayor attractions. Had a lot of old antique furniture mixed with modern. Just overall interesting decor. The reception staff okay but always seemed to me like it was all business and no real connection with guests. The rooms were small and we had a junior suite.... More

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
