First and foremost, the position of this hotel is great. It was situated 5-10 minutes from the center and most of the tourist attractions. Florence is quite small city so everything you might want to see was very close. The room was clean and spacious. We were in three and there was more than enough room for us. Bathroom was... More

Where to start! This B&B is not easy to find, but it is so worth it! The B&B sits on the 2nd floor of a building. You take an old-fashioned "lift" to the 2nd floor, go in the door and are immediately greeted by Oswaldo, the owner. He is warm, friendly and so very helpful. He will tell you the... More

Perfect for on a budget trip!! 10min walk from the train station and right in the middle of many points of interest!! And the host, Osvaldo, was beyond helpful! He gave us tips on where to eat and what to visit. He spoke English and a little bit of Spanish. The room we stayed in was a suite with two... More

Traveled to Florence with 5 friends 3 weeks ago. Selected this B&B for its value and location. We got way more than we paid for. Osvaldo met us when we arrived and we instantly felt like family. He arranged tours for us and provided great maps with suggestions for restaurants and shopping. Breakfast was fresh every day, we were close... More

My girlfriend and I visited Italy in January 2015 and needed a hotel in Florence. We came across this lovely B&B with a very good price. The host, Osvaldo, met us when we arrived and was very welcoming and helpful with ideas for sightseeing, its down the street from the Cathedral of Santa Maria Del Fire in the Plaza del... More

Osvaldo was exceptionally helpful with everything about our trip. Booking excursions, boarding passes, maps, and making breakfast. This place is well priced and walking close to all the sites. No need for a car. Room was big; bathroom clean with hot, hot water. 2nd floor with an available lift (though we just walked up).

The Le Stanze Dei Medici is a small hotel (B & B) located about a 5 minute walk from the Duomo. A very good two star. The price for Florence was very reasonable - especially during the tourist season. The breakfast was the usual continental breakfast; plus cereal. Actually you could make yourself a cup of coffee anytime as the... More

We have mixed comments about this B&B. Pros: - Close proximity to duomo, various museums and the historical town. - Owner helps guests with information on sightseeing spots. - Clean rooms. Cons: - Quite a walk (15 mins.) to the train station especially with luggage. - The size of our double room is rather small. - Plumbing noise inside the... More

Enjoyed a wondeful stay with a very comfortable room with added benefit including air conditioned and free WiFi. All the staff from check in to check out I met were really helpful and very welcoming. Breakfast was very good. The position of this B&B is amazing! 5 minutes walking from Dome and Academia Gallery!

Accomodations were fine - great location, nice room, pretty basic breakfast, very talkative but helpful host - although hard to get a clear (and short) answer. He told us we couldn't park in the street because it's a historical district, didn't mention you're not allowed to even DRIVE in the historical district without a special permit. Six months after our... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
