When you're checking in to what may be your 100th hostel of a trip you know what can make or break an experience. While the rooms are nice (get ready to climb some stairs and work off all that gnocci you're eating) the staff was pretty unfriendly. It makes a difference guys, when you've traveled a long ways to get... More

Emerald Palace is in a great location, right beside the Basilica San Lorenzo and less than 5 minute walk to both Mercato Centrale and Duomo. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we got a great private room with double bed and private bathroom for the price. They had messed up our reservation at Emerald Field and moved us here,... Happily my brother and I where upgraded to twin room from a dorm, the room was spacious and had a great view into the leather market below. The hostel is in a great location, a 10 minute walk from the train station and 5 minutes from the Duomo. The wifi is very shaky but I found this to be the... More

I'm a solo traveller and on a tight budget. The greatest thing about this place is the space. The room i was staying in had a very high ceiling and separate beds, which I enjoyed. The Minus: 1) Morning vendors that make a lot of noise when you're trying to sleep 2) Spotty Internet (But they were working on it).... More

Great place to stay, I was travelling alone and on a budget, this place was great. Friendly staff, clean, good size rooms (wasn't bunks was single beds) which was good. Breakfast was good-- basic but good coffee and an added bonus. Location is excellent - right outside the market and close to the basilicca and other main attractions.

Was quite a nice hostel until I woke up with over 50 bites from bedbugs all over my arms and my face. It is sad though because the rooms are really pretty and the bathroom is clean. The location is amazing!! If you still plan on booking at this hostel, be sure to check the bed where you sleep if... More

Upon arrival at this hostel, we were first met by the 55 steps. Whilst it's unusual to find places in Italy with lifts, it should always be made clear there is none. We were shown to our room by the friendly girl at the front desk, given a map and she kindly circled the locations of the main sites and... More

My sister and I stayed in room 2 (1 double bed) & had a great stay! Emerald palace is super easy to get to from the train (5-10 min walk with bags), right in the middle of a market and a few blocks from the Duomo so great location. Our room had a neat view out onto the market and... More

Upon our arrival here we received no answer at the doorbell downstairs. After 20 minutes someone else thankfully came. The incredibly rude man at reception insisted it was our fault. This rudeness continued through the whole process. This combined with the failure of the wifi anywhere but the lounge made the stay far worse than it should have been at... More

The hostel was situated in an excellent part of town and very easy to get around. However, the beds were a little sketchy and the wifi was non-existent. We were very lucky that we had some good people staying at the hostel otherwise this rating would be a lot worse.

Staying in San Lorenzo

Neighborhood Profile
San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo’s lively merchants shout out from behind stalls with an array of products in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Florence. Different ethnic groups join together in the large outdoor market of San Lorenzo and in the Central Market, a vast multi-floored building. Visitors are bound to fall in love with this area and in particular, with its variety of food, especially those focusing on Florentine dishes as well as international selections. Nobody leaves San Lorenzo without a shopping bag in hand or with an empty stomach.
