I was upgraded to a larger room which was a plus. The staff were very friendly with breakfast put on each morning. The hostel is centrally located and a short walk to food, leather markets, the main shopping district as well as plenty of tourist spots. The wifi wasn't that great but did work. The hostel is up three very... More

Good location. Comfortable non-bunk beds. Not enough power points. Broken toilet seat. Sufficient hostel breakfast (coffee, biscuits, toast, jams). Borderline rude staff. Weird loud noises in the morning, possibly the hot water units. Yes, there are stairs.

The hostel is located directly in the center of Florence near all the major attractions, markets, train and bus stations. The hostel offers free breakfast which includes only toast, ginger cookies and coffee/tea but when it is free- you can't really complain. It is very clean due to the fact that they have a 3 hour lockout period- which they... More

The place was nice, staff friendly and rooms are clean. Be prepared to claim three very high flight of stairs, fortunately someone heard me when I was almost there and helped me with my bag. Tip getting there from the train station. As you exit the tracks go to the exit on your left, once outside the station cross the... More

When you're checking in to what may be your 100th hostel of a trip you know what can make or break an experience. While the rooms are nice (get ready to climb some stairs and work off all that gnocci you're eating) the staff was pretty unfriendly. It makes a difference guys, when you've traveled a long ways to get... More

Emerald Palace is in a great location, right beside the Basilica San Lorenzo and less than 5 minute walk to both Mercato Centrale and Duomo. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we got a great private room with double bed and private bathroom for the price. They had messed up our reservation at Emerald Field and moved us here,... Happily my brother and I where upgraded to twin room from a dorm, the room was spacious and had a great view into the leather market below. The hostel is in a great location, a 10 minute walk from the train station and 5 minutes from the Duomo. The wifi is very shaky but I found this to be the... More

I'm a solo traveller and on a tight budget. The greatest thing about this place is the space. The room i was staying in had a very high ceiling and separate beds, which I enjoyed. The Minus: 1) Morning vendors that make a lot of noise when you're trying to sleep 2) Spotty Internet (But they were working on it).... More

Great place to stay, I was travelling alone and on a budget, this place was great. Friendly staff, clean, good size rooms (wasn't bunks was single beds) which was good. Breakfast was good-- basic but good coffee and an added bonus. Location is excellent - right outside the market and close to the basilicca and other main attractions.

Staying in San Lorenzo

Neighborhood Profile
San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo’s lively merchants shout out from behind stalls with an array of products in one of the most traditional neighborhoods in Florence. Different ethnic groups join together in the large outdoor market of San Lorenzo and in the Central Market, a vast multi-floored building. Visitors are bound to fall in love with this area and in particular, with its variety of food, especially those focusing on Florentine dishes as well as international selections. Nobody leaves San Lorenzo without a shopping bag in hand or with an empty stomach.
