Very disappointing hotel. It is very old and in much need of updating. We spent 4 nights there. The room was large but very old. They had updated the bathroom BUT it was so poorly laid out that one foot was in the shower when you used the toilet. ( I'm not kidding). They have a beautiful bar area and... More

This hotel is really well positioned at the end of Taormina's main street. From our balcony (although small) in room 226 on 2nd floor we had the most wonderful views of Mount Etna and a great lateral sea view. Our room was very comfortable, spacious and cool with its high ceilings and furnishings which were in keeping with the rest... More

In a dominant position one end of Taormina's main street, the Excelsior Palace, built in 1904, possesses old-fashioned but genuine charm. Rooms are somewhat baronial in flavour, the bar is like a gentlemans' club but the dining room is more modern in feel. The hotel has a terrace and pool down the hillside. My favourite view was from the terrace... More

This hotel was probably the place to stay at in the 1920s. It had an amazing location and having said that , there's a lot to be desired. The light in the rooms is awful and so reading is not easy. The fixtures, pillows, and so much more need an update really bad. I could go on but needless to... More

A well kept, old style (1904) hotel with very friendly and helpful staff at the end of the main street in Taormina. Our room lacked power sockets, which is unfortunate these days and the pool while very nice is a fair walk and many stone steps from the hotel so be prepared. However great location and great views!

Although the Excelsior has a slightly faded grandeur, it more than makes up for this by excellent service, superb position and attention to detail, even providing a packed lunch to accommodate a problem diet.

Wonderful situation at the South end of the main street of Taormina with views either over the sea or Etna (our room had two small balconies and both views). Style emulates its age (111 years) but the rooms have been brought up to date and are very comfortable with air-con, comfortable beds and good showers and bathrooms. Pool area lovely... More

Excellent hotel for a stay in Taormina. At the end of the main street , it has lovely views of Etna, although you will have to pay extra for a 'room with a view'. Our room was excellent, without the view, but others in our party complained of small rooms. There is a nice outdoor pool at the bottom of... More

This hotel makes up for in charm what it lacks in luxury. In the process of renovation by the looks of the new dining room, the rooms,do need a bit of a maker over and refurbish . However they pass and hold a charm and elegance still. Our bed was quite firm but we managed to sleep ok on our... More

Located on the hilltop of this special town in Sicily, the Excelsior Palace is a gem from the past, still offering good old fashioned service with a smile. We had seven nights there, the breakfast was generous, from cereal, fresh fruit, tinned fruit, huge selection of breads, cakes, hams, cheeses, even bacon and scrambled eggs! Any amount of juice and... More
