The view from the hotel and the surrounding area are beautiful. The front desk staff are very helpful and professional; they were able to recommend restaurants and provided directions. With that being said, the food was terrible and the kitchen/dining room staff were very rude and not accommodating at all. I was visiting from the U.S. and they treated my... More

This hotel is more than 100 years old. It has more personality than a Marriott, and less electrical outlets. The corridors may smell a bit like cigarette smoke, but the windows open and then you get the fresh Sicilian air and you can see the Etna and the sea. Not what you get in a Marriott. I like the old... More

Very good location with great views, only bettered by the town' s 5 star top hotel next to the Greek theatre. Our French balcony room was adequate, bathroom good, but lacked a clothes drawer cabinet, so we had to live out of our suitcase for 4 nights. Other people in our group who did not pay extra, a fair bit... More

Very small rooms, there was a weird smell at night and the air conditioning leaked so the plaster fell off the ceiling. The pool was lovely though and it is incredibly central, if you get a larger room this is probably quite nice. Food was good, had a kind of old fashioned charm

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a week, arriving back yesterday. We were here for our wedding anniversary. The best thing about this hotel, which makes it excellent is it's location. You could not find a more perfect location, at the top of Corsa Umberto, next to Porto Catania. To add to this, it has the most... More

We spent ten days here in October and it was the poorest four star hotel we have ever stayed in. The only 4* things about this hotel are the reception staff, the position of the hotel and the service in the bar, although the prices are 6*. Our room, which had a good view of Mount Etna was painted a... More

We have been to Taormina before and knew the hotel was in a good spot - just outside the city walls and close to shops, restaurants and bars etc. We booked the hotel through British Airways holidays and requested a room with a sea view and balcony - we did email the hotel making the same request. The room we... More

The hotel is in an absolutely brilliant location at the start of Umberto. Standing at the corner of the hotel you can see ; a bank, a convenience store, an English chemist, an ice cream parlour, a bar and three restaurants, a church and a taxi rank...that`s just for starters. The sea view rooms are excellent, you can also see... More

The Excelsior is perfectly placed for a holiday in Taormina, right on the edge of the old city gates you have easy access to the beautiful streets, boutiques, and restaurants Taormina has to offer. The reception staff are superb and always ready to help with a smile and charm. Our standard room had a small balcony with enough room for... More

My husband and I arrived tired and hot. You have to drive your car to a parking garage up the hill and pay by machine when you leave. There is a small area where you can drop off the bags . Friendliest person is the young man who carried our bags. The hotel great location for walking everywhere Great breakfast!... More
