From welcome to departure all staff here were friendly and efficient. We had a large room with a settee, a desk and chair and a small table with two chairs – much better than many hotels and plenty of room for all this. The bathroom was also a good size. The breakfast was what appeared to be fairly standard for... more

The Hotel Roma, set in Ortygia, the medieval district of Syracuse is wonderful. Ortygia is difficult for the uninitiated to navigate around by car, so we were delighted to hand over our car keys and let the hotel porter take it away and park it so that we could enjoy exploring this lovely area on foot. The hotel is located... more

This was by far the nicest hotel in Sicily I have stayed at. Can't explain why people think otherwise! Charming, great staff, amazing location, did not want to leave. more

Without any doubt the best 4 star hotel I've ever yet been to (even better than some 5 star ones). Location is excellent: couple of minutes away from the main square -Piazza Archimede, the Cathedral Square - Piazza Duomo, the seafront and the chic shopping street - Corso Matteotti. Fantastic restaurants within walking distance. Not to mention the vicinity of... more

My wife and I arrived in Sicily for our honeymoon - only to find that Alitalia had lost our luggage on the connection in Rome. After a frustrating two hours in the airport, we drove down to Syracuse and checked into the hotel with nothing but my wife's purse. upon arrival, the staff was amazingly helpful - first calling Alitalia... more

We arrived by car and were quite frustrated - and indeed tired, hungry and a little angry - by the time we found it. Our Navman understandably didn't know the local road closures and discretionary access. The Hotel has a few signs around the town which are quite unhelpful We stayed in a suite of some kind which was quite... more

Techinically there was nothing wrong with our stay at Hotel Roma but after the positive reviews and the 4 star rating I was expecting more from the hotel. Our room was large and clean but also bare with no decoration or character. The beadspread could have been from the 90s and the pillows were as flat as pancakes and we... more

Given the wrong room and not able to move until 2nd night. 2nd night put in a room where the air conditioning made a grinding noise if you turned it off and was freezing if you left it on. The light bulb in the hall could also either be on or strobing - off wasn't possible. We were on the... more

We would highly recommend this hotel on Ortygia in Syracuse. Fabulous location, right around the corner from the piazza in front of the cathedral. Very clean, well-run property. Excellent service from the attentive staff. Heavenly breakfast. The rooms are modern and spacious. We would stay here again. more

The Roma is located right behind the Piazza del Duomo, site of the island’s main cathedral (which is built on the remains of a Greek temple). This is the main piazza on the island of Ortigia, a stunning place. The Roma has undergone a beautiful restoration, with elements of the building’s history melded into what is a modern hotel. Each... more
