We very much enjoyed our stay at Hotel Gran Bretagna. The location in the heart of Ortygia is perfect for seeing the most beautiful and historical parts of Syracuse. Our room was large, pretty and comfortable, with a good wireless internet connection. Best of all, the staff were extremely helpful. They carried our heavy suitcases up the stairs, gave us... More

Stayed 4 nights. Location was excellent (close to all the car rental returns). Everything else (room, breakfast, staff, etc.) was neither outstanding nor a problem. No problems with anything in the room other than we were up several long flights of stairs. Ask for the first floor.

My wife and I arrived prepared to stay here for almost a week. It had come highly recommended by one of the travel guides we carried. We checked in and asked if there was Wifi. We were told yes. We went to our large room which looked out over a very noise street with a lot of automobile traffic. The... More

A hotel where we had made reservations was a total disaster and we quickly decided to cancel and search for another. After two tries our visit to Siracusa was saved when we found a room at the Gran Bretagna. We were well received and had assistance getting our luggage up the very steep staircase. We had to switch rooms for... More

In my opinion, a hotel must meet certain basic criteria in order to be considered for a revisit. The bed, pillow, and linens must be comfortable; the room must be quiet and comfortable enough to sleep in; and it must be clean. The Gran Bretagnia passes in all respects. It is not a luxury hotel, but is clean, quiet, and... More

Sicily is full of cities with dramatic names, Taormina, Cefalu, and, definitely, Siracusa. This is one charming place, not to be missed. It is kind of hard to find a place to stay in the historic center, but it is worth trying. On our drive around Sicily (with no pre-booked hotels) my wife and I stayed at the Gran Bretagna,... More

Stayed in the hotel for 2 nights in August 2006. I arrived in Siracuse early in the morning with the thought of taking the night train back but fell in love with the place and decided to try my luck in finding a room 'on the spot'. Gran Bretagna was the second hotel I walked in, and I was so... More

This summer we booked a Fly-Drive to Sicily and we found this address on the Internet to stay for the first night in Sicily! Very comfortable rooms, very friendly and helpful staff and if you want to have an excellent room, choose for room nr. 107 which is spacious, has a modern clean bathroom, lovely old balcony with sea view... Gran Bretagna - we were pleasantly surprised. We got the referral from the Lonely Planet and got 3 rooms with no reservation - so considered ourselves very lucky as it was 5pm. It is an above average hotel, clean, large rooms and bathroom was definitely the best we had whilst travelling in Italy, however no elevator. The breakfast was okay,... More
