There have been a number of negative reviews of this hotel, mainly from the days when it was a Hilton. We stayed for five nights over New Year 2016, and found much that we liked about the place. Its location is indeed a 10-15 minute walk from what most tourists would see as the 'centre' of Palermo (the Teatro Massimo)... More

The common areas and the decor are not what you expect when first discovering the external chic aspect of the hotel. The room was also quite dirty (walls). The good point is about the personnel who is really professional. The breakfast is also very rich and correct.

I can't write too much about this hotel as we arrived at midnight and left at 9.00 the next morning, having used it as a staging post. I can say that the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and provided a good night's rest. Breakfast was excellent and set us up nicely for the day.

We visited this lovely hotel in the end of November, following the recommendation of a local friend, and found it really ideal place to stay. Situated in central and yet very quiet part of the city it is easy to reach from the airport, avoiding the traffic. It is a nice neighbourhood with luxury shops and couple of good restaurants... Grand looking exterior, however the inside did not live up to expectations. The common areas were quite dirty and the decor was shabby. We could have lived with this, but we arrived in 34+ degrees and the aircon in our room was broken. When we inquired at reception about having this fixed, we were told it would be repaired by... I was struggling with if I didn't like Palermo...but determined my trip was largely ruined by this hotel. When I arrived, I wasn't quite welcomed. The somber staff fill this place. The women behind the front desk ARE THE WORST. They made me feel like I wanted to apologize for checking in here. I joked with my tour guide that... More

I just returned from a 3-day visit to Palermo, on business. I stayed in Hotel Mercure Excelsior for 2 nights (November 9-11, 2015). A very good choice if you visit Palermo on business or tourism. An aristocratic hotel, in via de la liberta, with spacious rooms, very clean, friendly and very polite staff, fluent in french and english, who can... More

We stayed twice with a tour - at the beginning and at the end. The air conditioning unit was being replaced on our first visit and it did seem to work after that. The whole place needs a major renovation and the roof needs fixing. We had heavy rain during our second stay and the corridors and some rooms were... More

The staff was very professional and very pleasant at all times. The rooms were very large and clean at all times. The rooms were cleaned each day in a timely manner. There were always taxis outside the hotel.

Palermo is the first stop of our Italian trip. Hence it is important for us to find a comfortable, safe hotel in a convenient location, to relax after a long flight among other issues. Excelsior Palace seems to fit the bill. Firstly the hotel is on the Airport Bus route, but with the cost of airport bus at 6.60 euro,... More
