good point = it's close to the train station. there is ONE very nice/helpful receptionist breakfast is not bad, esp the scramble egg - it's very well done. bad point = it's very old. in great need of refurbishment. it's not cheap! (cheap comparing to the others in town) grumpy receptionists who gave wrong advice! do they have any clue... more

Our stay at the Royal Palace was not of our choosing. We were at the Hotel Liberty, their sister property just 1 block away. The Liberty had problems with the AC (which eventually were solved), but not before everyone was moved over to the Royal Palace. We were given one of their 'best rooms' - not quite. Water marks all... more

Oh my, where to begin? Should we talk about the wallpaper that peels off the walls in every room and every seam? Or the staff who overcharged us the minute we walked in the door with double room reservations which they claimed only slept one person? (Euro $40. upgrade). Or the $35 euro dinner they so graciously offered as a... more

We stayed in the Royal Palace in early September for three nights. Our first impressions on arrival were not as we had expected. The hotel is graded as a four star, maybe a fair grading in the mid 1970’s but has failed to redecorate in the last few decades. Messina centre has only a few hotels and the lack of... more

I tried to book this on their website which didn't work. I sent an e-mail asking them to honor the web rate and they said I needed to book it on the website to get it. After quite a bit of arguing, they finally gave it to me. The elevator doors nearly crushed my 14 month old son in his... more

We stayed at the Royal Palace for one night before heading to the Aolian Islands. The hotel staff spoke basic English which was a problem as we needed to enquire about ferry times and parking etc. They weren't very helpful either which made the experience a little disappointing. The hotel is very dated and in need of major refurbishment to... more

The Royal Palace is not too bad - although our room did have a few damp patches on the walls, peeling wallpaper and a few suspect stains on the carpet. That said, it is a hotel in need of some serious modernisation/refurbishment - it claims to be 4*, but I'm a bit dubious about that rating. On a comical side... more
