A warm greeting from Marco and Alexandra welcomes you to this well appointed B&B in Venice. Located in the Cannaregio district it is a short hope on the Grand camel from the central crowds of St Mark’s Piazza. The hotel is clean and room well appointed, and nothing is too much trouble for the hosts. They are on hand to... More

This is simply the perfect place to stay. Marco and Alessandra are effortlessly helpful and welcoming. It's a very relaxing, quiet place in a great part of the city. Good espresso at breakfast, either on the terrace or in your room. There is no nasty art on the wall, nothing jars, the beds are great, the bathroom large. It's marvellous.... More

Having caught the No. 5 bus from just outside the airport into Venice Station, then the Ferry to Maddona De Ort, we stayed at Casa Baseggion for a 3 day weekend, which is a 5 min walk from the ferry stop Maddona De Ort, so easy to get to. The room is in a private house and was spacious and... More

My partner and I stayed with Marco and Alessandra for four nights. The house is situated in a quiet courtyard just a 5 minute walk from Madonna Del or to which is the first stop on the alilaguna from the airport. We were checked in and sightseeing in no time at all. Cannaregio is the place to stay for the... More

We arrived in Venice Aug 21, 2014 after over 10 hours of flying from Canada. We found our own way to the area of B & B Casa Baseggio easy enough, but once in the area we did have a bit of trouble finding the place. We were greated by Marco's wife. The place is very clean, quaint and quiet.... More

It was very difficult to find lodging for just one night on a weekend in Venice, but fortunately Casa Baseggio accepted our request. Since we had such a short visit Marco suggested a small local museum instead of the crowded spots with long waiting lines, and his suggestion was perfect. Also we had a delicious meal at a quiet local... More

We stayed in Venice for three nights. I couldn't imagine staying in the "downtown" area. This little B&B was just far enough away without being far away. When we got there we took the €7 water boat. We did this because the directions Marco gave us included the boat. It was worth paying to find the b&b! Marco emailing directions--... More

We stay for 3 nights in April. We loved that the room was clean, quiet and bright. We also loved that the B&B is in a neighbourhood away from the masses of tourists, but close enough to the main parts of Venice to get there in a short walk. The owners were fantastic. Alessandra in particular was extremely helpful, friendly... More

We had a fantastic stay here. The rooms and house are very clean and well decorated. These are the best beds which we have slept on in Venice. It is nice and quiet at night, we could sleep just fine with the window open. Marco was a wonderful host and he prepared our breakfast on the beautiful veranda. It is... More

While the B&B is not centrally located, you get to see more of Venice by walking the back sidewalks and canals to get to and from it. When pressed one time, we made it from the Doge's Palace back to the B&B in 15 minutes. But the leisurely stroll was better. The room was great, but the best part was... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
