Our original booking was the Hotel Veccllio right on the waterfront and opposite the Water transport station. On arrival we were told that our rooms were at Piccolo Vecellio a few streets up and down a side street. This Establishment was owned by the hotel and converted a few years ago from a private house into hotel accommodation. Comprises 4 rooms... More

The hotel was really at a good spot esp. If you want to visit Biennale. The rooms were very clean and nice and the staff was helpful. The breakfast was fairly good. The location was perfect as it was close to the center by walking and also very close (2mins by walk) to the vaporetto station. The only problem for... More

Went here during a 6 week European adventure. Struggled a Lille finding the place and getting our keys but managed in the end. Located I the less touristy side of Venice it allowed for us to only venture into tourist land when we wanted to. The room itself was quite small but had everything we needed. Couldn't work the fridge... More

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on our visit to Venice. We checked in at the main hotel, which is a street away. Staff were friendly and welcoming, and gave us a hand drawn map to get to the guest house. On arrival the room was small, with not much space. The safe wouldn't work, so my partner... More

Hotel inside looks good, close to waterbus station fondamente nova , however 20-30 min walk to st mark scq , personally would go for closer hotel. Inside smart with nice decor, service was great however you either call a number or you go to sister hotel to check in - that is opposite the waterbus station. Breakfast is nice with... More

We checked in at the Fondamenta Nuove Hotel location, and learned that our room was in the guest house on Calle del Fumo. Three alleys/streets to the east, we discovered a narrow poorly lit alley (initially unsettling for my wife's first european hotel) and after some confusion, found the entrance much further down the alley than described marked with a... My Sister and I travel to a European city each year for a short break and this year it was Venice. The deal we booked was for the main Vecellio hotel which is on the waterfront and faces Murano Island, but when we arrived we were told that we had not yet arrived and it was in fact another 5... The guest house is a few lanes away from the main hotel, which is small and very welcoming. There are only 4 rooms so it gave a very intimate feel. The room was extremely clean and the bed was very comfortable. Modern bathroom with bath/shower, loo and bidet, also in another little section of the room was a third single... More

Firstly- this hotel is not the best in venice, you can't see the lagoon or the canal from the room and it's a 15 minute walk from St Marco. If you want all of those things you need to up your budget and pay €500+ a night for a different hotel. However, for around €110 a night at the beginning... More

Great location. A short walk from the bus stop I mean boat stop, Fondamenta Nuove. The guest house isn't always staffed so it is sometimes necessary to visit the main hotel (The hotel Vecellio) to announce your arrival. After ringing the doorbell of the guest house with no answer I ventured around the corner to the Vecellio. Approximately a 3-5... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
