We checked in at the Fondamenta Nuove Hotel location, and learned that our room was in the guest house on Calle del Fumo. Three alleys/streets to the east, we discovered a narrow poorly lit alley (initially unsettling for my wife's first european hotel) and after some confusion, found the entrance much further down the alley than described marked with a... My Sister and I travel to a European city each year for a short break and this year it was Venice. The deal we booked was for the main Vecellio hotel which is on the waterfront and faces Murano Island, but when we arrived we were told that we had not yet arrived and it was in fact another 5... The guest house is a few lanes away from the main hotel, which is small and very welcoming. There are only 4 rooms so it gave a very intimate feel. The room was extremely clean and the bed was very comfortable. Modern bathroom with bath/shower, loo and bidet, also in another little section of the room was a third single... More

Firstly- this hotel is not the best in venice, you can't see the lagoon or the canal from the room and it's a 15 minute walk from St Marco. If you want all of those things you need to up your budget and pay €500+ a night for a different hotel. However, for around €110 a night at the beginning... More

Great location. A short walk from the bus stop I mean boat stop, Fondamenta Nuove. The guest house isn't always staffed so it is sometimes necessary to visit the main hotel (The hotel Vecellio) to announce your arrival. After ringing the doorbell of the guest house with no answer I ventured around the corner to the Vecellio. Approximately a 3-5... More

We were disappointed by our stay at this guest house. The room was tired, a little shabby and very gloomy. They advertise wi-fi throughout but this isn't the case, the only place to access wi-fi was in the breakfast room which is only unlocked at breakfast time. There was no fresh food at breakfast, it was pre-packed croissants etc. we... More

We stayed at Guest House Piccolo Vecellio. Yes, we liked it! Quiet little street, near a water bus/taxi stop (Fondamenta Nove) on the north side (so away from tourist central, right across the water from Murano). It takes 25ish minutes to walk to tourist central (St. Mark's Square, etc.), so yes, location was great. One thing we appreciated after the... More

I was a little skeptical when booking due to reading previous trip advisor reviews but regardless booked and stayed at the Guest House, it was wonderful! The location was perfect for us, it was quiet and away from the busy crowds of venice, the walk to anywhere isn't too far, Rialto bridge is 10 minutes away and st marks square... More

My wife and I stayed here for a couple of nights and overall was quite happy with the friendliness of stuff and especially Beate who served breakfast and suggested great places to eat. It is very convenient with the Fondamenta Nove vaporetto stop just 5 mins walking through Calle du Fumo. However, there is a bit of mosquito problem and... More

We stayed here for 2 nights while at Venice. Friendly and helpful staff .Location is nice as well but I found a few things that I didnt like- the room was small (incase you're claustrophobic , this is a NO-NO place for you) , there were mosquitoes coming in (come armed with mosquito repellents, we carried them with us luckily)... Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
