Nice hotel on the Grand Canal. The rooms are very dark in design ( I prefer lots of natural light) Good breakfast and coffee. The manager had lots of recommendations which were great however the other hotel reception staff less friendly and helpful. We liked having a drink on their terrace in the sun overlooking the canal.

This hotel is located on the Grand Canal and so has terrific view, especially if you end up in the right bedrooms. We stayed in a junior suite which was well appointed. The bathroom was nice, but no bath which didn't matter frankly, although the shower controls didn't work perfectly. The staff were very friendly. The hotel is well located,... More

Dear WilsonEwe, I'm glad you had a good time with us at Palazzo Barbarigo. During the night the Gran Canal is always quiete, even in high-season time. I'm sorry you didn't totally appreciate the Breakfast and it would be very helpfull to me to know what we could have done to achieve your expectation. As far as the Breakfast hours... More

loved this place. my wife and i were on our honeymoon and felt very well taken care of. we can heartily recommend the whole experience: great sense of style, great location (ignore the rants elsewhere), and most of all attentive, friendly staff. there were some glitches here and there but nothing to (ahem) rant about. hint: if you can afford... I've stay in great hotels in New Orleans and Bangkok. Neither came close to Palazzo Barbarigo. Small, intimate, the staff was amazing. Very helpful. Breakfast was excellent. My only advice is to arrive by water taxi otherwise very hard to find (not the hotels fault, just the way it is in Venice)

First clue: You are greeted by being told "you are the last to arrive", something about how it was said gave me pause, and boy was I right. Clue two: You are offered your room “with a canal view” but it’s of the trashy houses across the way, with a huge satellite dish and cheap plastic lawn chairs (trailer park... More

A great location on the 'quieter' side of the Grand Canal, we loved the discreet service, from breakfast through drinks sitting on the balcony or in the bar, to the evening turn-down with chocolates. We stayed in a junior suite overlooking the Grand Canal, with a chaise lounge, very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom with rainhead shower and Italian toiletries. We... More

We arrived by water taxi which is the way to go. Our room was number 17 right next to the library. It was very spacious with a wonderful velvet chaise lounge to relax on after a day getting lost! We wanted our stay to feel like we might be so fortunate to live like Venetians...walking through the entry did just that! Valentina welcomed us with a lovely bottle of champagne. Our room overlooking the Grand Canal was more beautiful and luxurious than the photographs. The attention to every detail could not have been more perfect!

Staying in San Polo

Neighborhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighborhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
