My Mum and I just got back from a week in Venice and we used Al Gallion as our base. It was a superb choice for us. We were very pleased to have found two spacious rooms in the beautiful Sestiere de S. Croce, a super location for exploring the city, but not at all busy and crowded. It is... More

We were given 2 connecting rooms during our recent stay with them. The rooms are spacious and clean. As for location, it is conveniently located quite near to the railway train station as well as walking distance to the various places of interest. Each morning, we were greeted by the homemade yummy breakfast prepared by Daniela. A big thanks to... More

I absolutely loved my recent stay at Daniela's B & B. From the moment we walked in the door and she welcomed us with a delicious cup of coffee we felt right at home. Her B & B is very easy to get to and is a five minute walk from the train station in a quiet, residential neighbourhood (away... More

We stayed here for 3 nights and when Daniela was unable to meet us she sent her son to greet us instead and he was very enthusiastic to do so. We were supplied with our own map where she carefully drew out the best way to get to different parts of the city. Her son also went over the different... More

This was our second stay at Al Gallion, and we were once again overwhelmed by the kind hospitality that Daniela so graciously gave us. The location is perfect -about a 10 minute walk to the train station, in a quiet part of Venice with several delicious neighborhood restaurants to choose from. Her home is lovely with gorgeous terrazzo floors and... More

This bed and breakfast was wonderful! The owner, Daniela, was so sweet and so helpful. She gave us a map, recommended easy walking tours, recommended great restaurants, and explained all the vaporetto routes. The location is ideal as it is less than a 10 minute walk from the train station. Venice is super easy to get around so even though... More

I stayed at Al Gallion for 2 nights. A friend who had previously stayed there had highly recommended the place. Daniela was an excellent host. Given I did not have too long in the city I took her advice on which sites to visit I was not disappointed at all. I am glad I took her advice to walk and... More

My husband and I stayed with Daniela for 3 nights at the end of October 2013 to end our 2 1/2 week Italian vacation. We were blessed to stay in nice bed and breakfasts nearly everywhere we went, but I must say Al Gallion takes the cake. The apartment itself is lovely with high windows and stunning Venetian glass chandeliers... More

I fully agree with all of the glowing comments posted by others who have stayed here. Have already recommended it to others. Daniela's map and advice were a great help in ensuring we made best use of our two days. The location is close to the train station and Piazalle Roma, and just a far enough from St Mark's Square... Daniela is a gracious, sweet and charming host with a sense of humour and as much information as you could possibly need. When we first arrived, she sat with us and gave us a great map with written-in of Venice including vaporetto routes, traghetti stops, some of her favourite restaurants and even a nice walking tour in the S. Croce/Dorsoduro... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
