I procrastinated and booked this about two weeks before our trip. I was having trouble finding a room that would sleep four people. I ended up finding Alloggi alla Scala for a very reasonable price with two twin beds and a queen sized bed. We parked at the Tronchetto and took the #2 Vaporetto to the Rialto Stop. Only crossing... Close to the main attractions in Venice, which would help you to save your time and money. My room was comfortable and furnished with funny stuff, but definitely in good style. View from window was interesting, we had close look at one of the minor channels, but you could observe some gondolas. Unfortunately the wi-fi wasn't working, so we had... More

Closer attention to others' reviews would have prepared us more for this odd little place. So, in summary, small, quaint but clean rooms decorated sometime in mid 20th century. Don't expect much other than a clean bed and working shower in close proximity (thanks Google maps) to Rialto Bridge and access to water buses.

We stayed here for 2 out of 3 nights in Venice, and it was nice, clean and comfortable. We would've stayed for all 3 nights, but it was not available. The people were very nice, allowing us to check in early - we arrived at 8am and out room was ready, so we could shower and rest, which was great.... More

Though very basic, the room was spotlessly clean and air conditioner worked perfectly. The staff, Katerina (hope I spell her name correctly) is very friendly and helpful. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay.

First off, do not be put off by people saying that the place is difficult to find - Venice itself has many windy and confusing streets. The directions on their website were very clear, which also provided an outline of how to get there. I found it through a combination of their directions and also Google Maps, which I highly... We booked the hotel without noticing that the check in was until 8.30 pm and our flight was landing in Treviso at 10. We tried to contact the hotel (I sent an email and we called them several times), but we couldn't speak with anyone. The day we arrived we feared we wouldn't have a room. I don't know how... More

We came in on an evening flight May 12/15 and walked from Piazza Roma. You cross the first bridge if you get off the bus and keep to your left you come to it on your right. Follow signs to the Rialto and once you cross the outside stairs on the right you turn right onto Riva del Carbon and... More

The reason I selected this hotel was because of the price and location. .. This hotel is difficult to find. I recommend buying a SIM card at the airport or train station and paying the 30 euro one month of data. . This will make navigating Venice 100% easier. Serious this is the biggest recommendation I can make for Venice.... More

The location is very good once you know how to find it. We had to ask around because it is pretty hard to find. It's 5 minutes walk or less to San Marco's square. The most troubling part of our trip happened in this hotel. We returned to our room for our 2nd pit-stop after exploring the city, and our... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
