The space the hotel gave us to sleep in was not a room, but a cupboard with a small window resembling a prison cell. The management made no effort to resolve this matter, they said the hotel was full but during the time we were there new guests came and went but they refused to move us. I guess they... More

Venice is our favourite city and we have visited a few times. Although we have always stayed in the San Marco area, I had my eyes set on this hotel after reading the reviews and walking by during a previous visit. This hotel is one of my favourite hotels I have ever stayed in. Staff is wonderful, service impeccable and... More

This is a brilliant hotel in an excellent location in Venice. It is in the Dorsoduro area, on the other side of the Grand Canal to St Marks Square. It is right next to a water bus stop where you can get a water bus to and from the airport, which is very convenient. The hotel is walking distance from... More

Wonderful small hotel at the Canal Grande. Carefully renovated beautiful palazzo with differently styled rooms. Friendly staff, excellent beds, opposite Palazzo Grassi with interesting exhibitions. Breakfast on terrace.

This hotel is a gem to behold, both inside and outside. And as many have said before, it's a beautiful place to sit and watch the boats in the Grand Canal. The service is impeccable, they made arrangements (hotel boat included) for us at their sister hotel's restaurant which has a jaw dropping view over the entry to the GC.... More

We stayed 2 Nights in this pretty Palazzo and probably took more pictures inside and around the Hotel than the rest of Venice. The location right on the Canal Grande is great and the Breakfast Terrace is right on the water. We had a standard room with a view of the neighborhood, but that was actually not bad and quite.... My husband and I stayed here while celebrating our 25 wedding anniversary and it could not have been better. The hotel and grounds are picture perfect and the location is very convenient. When I saw others having to drag their luggage up and down foot bridges, I was very happy that the Palazzo Stern is next to a water bus... More

This was our second visit to this hotel in three years. It is a great location overlooking the Grand Canal and the interior and exterior are both delightful. Service was first class. Two criticisms this time: 1. The bathroom fittings were not all there or working. 2. More importantly, the breakfast was disappointing, with poor orange juice and fruit salad.

We were transported into the 17th century with all the trappings of the 21st behind our doors. Beautiful hotel, nice views and good staff. Our room was small as was expected in Venice. This is a 16th century town, do not expect 20-21th century spread in most hotels. The décor was luxurious and dazzling - a Palace.

My wife and I have just enjoyed our third stay in four years at Hotel Palazzo Stern, and it will not be our last! The hotel is small and beautiful, located in the Dorsoduro, right on the Grand Canal. Our room was on level two and had an outstanding view up and down the Grand Canal. The room was large... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
