My family of four stayed on the top floor of this lovely, clean hotel for two nights. Our room had one large bed, a converted couch and one foldaway bed, and we had plenty of room to move around. The staff was very helpful, friendly and accommodating -- our visit to Italy was during a terrible heat wave, and the... More

This hotel is located on the Grand Canal so we arrived by water taxi to the front door without hauling luggage all over Venice. It is also a few steps from the vaporetto stop, # 1 line which takes you everywhere. It is a beautiful hotel with decoration from Venice's past. We had a superior room with a view of... More

Fantastic hotel with very friendly staff. Very attentive staff. Very good location walking distance to St Marks square. Lots of restaurants near by. The view from hotel is beautiful. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in Palazzo Stern during a three days trip to Venice. We had a mini suit overlooking Canal Grande. The room was very spacious, the beds extremely comfortable, nicely furnished, clean and air conditioned. Breakfast on the terrace was fine, all staff very courteous and helpful. Highly recommended.

We spent 3 nights in the hotel during one of the hottest spells in Venice this summer. Both the air conditioned room and outside terrace were saviours, enabling us to enjoy this most beautiful of cities to the full. There is little point in repeating all of the superlatives in other reviews - but they are all true. You are... More

We had a lovely quiet double bedroom which was very clean and in walking distace to all amenities. Ferry on the doorstep of hotel which is very convenient. Many choices of restaurants to choose from in the area.

Ideal location immediately adjacent to the water bus stop. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and provided with a complimentary drink which was a nice touch. Our room was a Junior suite suitable for 3 adults and was excellent. Clean, tidy and very well equipped where the air conditioning worked well. The room overlooked the side canal and was very... We couldn't have chosen better.....A small but very well run hotel in a really terrific location. Right on the Grand Canal so when you arrive you can get a boat right to the door. Sounds like a simpls thing but I have seen people lugging their heavy suitcases over bridges and struggling in the heat for blocks and blocks, I... More

I stayed at the Palazzo Stern for three days in August 2015 and had a very good time in Venice. I think the location of the hotel is superb, a little off the beaten track but still only a short walk away from Piazza San Marco and so on. Also interesting to explore lesser known areas around the hotel. I... More

Very good location next to the vaparetto stop Ca'rezzonico and only couple of stops away from the San Marco square. The hotel is a former renovated palazzo. We booked a junior suite and had a specious room with nice bathroom with a view on the grand canal. Very comfortable room (great beds) and very clean. There is also a turn... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
