This hotel is a gem to behold, both inside and outside. And as many have said before, it's a beautiful place to sit and watch the boats in the Grand Canal. The service is impeccable, they made arrangements (hotel boat included) for us at their sister hotel's restaurant which has a jaw dropping view over the entry to the GC.... More

We stayed 2 Nights in this pretty Palazzo and probably took more pictures inside and around the Hotel than the rest of Venice. The location right on the Canal Grande is great and the Breakfast Terrace is right on the water. We had a standard room with a view of the neighborhood, but that was actually not bad and quite.... My husband and I stayed here while celebrating our 25 wedding anniversary and it could not have been better. The hotel and grounds are picture perfect and the location is very convenient. When I saw others having to drag their luggage up and down foot bridges, I was very happy that the Palazzo Stern is next to a water bus... More

This was our second visit to this hotel in three years. It is a great location overlooking the Grand Canal and the interior and exterior are both delightful. Service was first class. Two criticisms this time: 1. The bathroom fittings were not all there or working. 2. More importantly, the breakfast was disappointing, with poor orange juice and fruit salad.

We were transported into the 17th century with all the trappings of the 21st behind our doors. Beautiful hotel, nice views and good staff. Our room was small as was expected in Venice. This is a 16th century town, do not expect 20-21th century spread in most hotels. The décor was luxurious and dazzling - a Palace.

My wife and I have just enjoyed our third stay in four years at Hotel Palazzo Stern, and it will not be our last! The hotel is small and beautiful, located in the Dorsoduro, right on the Grand Canal. Our room was on level two and had an outstanding view up and down the Grand Canal. The room was large... More

We spent the last two days of our twelve day trip here. It was a lovely location- right on the canal. We had a room that looked right out onto the canal. The boats start early- super early - but as tired as you are from siteseeing it didn't impact our sleep. The building is so beautiful and old. You... More

I stayed with my daughter for two nights during our three city trip to Italy. This hotel is exceptional. My daughter mentioned that this was her favorite hotel ever and I couldn't think of a hotel stay that I enjoyed more than this one. We took the vaporetto (water bus) to the stop next to the hotel and walked just... More

Best location! The hotel is directly connected to the Canal Grande. The close surrounding offers a great variety of restaurants, shops and bars. With its central location the hotel is a perfect starting point to reach many of the most famous sights of Venice. The Palazzo Stern itself makes your visit as comfortable as possible. Especially the employees made our... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
