Don't be put off because this is a one star hotel. In Italy the number of stars is an indication of amenities, not quality. Casa Petrarca is a very small (seven rooms by my count) hotel with tiny rooms, modest breakfasts, and without a 24 hour front desk (or even a lobby), all of which is typical for a one... More

Casa Petrarca is a friendly little hotel right in the heart of Venice. It's well situated to be reached by public transport, with fast walking access to the main historical attractions. Sadly, the host felt she had to apologise for the size of the room - of course it's small, it's in the middle of a city on a set... More

We stayed for a long weekend and it's a perfect location close to San Marco square (if you have a good sense of direction which we had to gather at first). The hotel itself is not so big, bit it more than makes up for it with very friendly and extremely helpful hosts who go out of their way to... More

Great location, homely environment, good rooms and amenities, close to St. Mark square and the Rialto Stop for airport and train station. Don't skip the breakfast. Try and get a room with the canal view.

Right in the middle of San Marco, on a quiet side street. Breakfast room (and some sleeping rooms) overlook a canal and bridges. One star albergho, with rooms of varying sizes - call to get the best one!! If you are in Venice, you shouldn't be in your room anyway. Breakfast is surprisingly robust, and included. Reasonable price.

The hotel is located in the heart of Venice and within a short-walking distance to Piazza San Marco. We chose to save money on this leg of the journey and opted for the shared bathroom. This worked out fine for our two nights here and didn’t really cause much inconvenience. The room itself was small and basic and did include... More

We stayed 3 nights in one of the smallest rooms (the place is full quickly) but we enjoyed our stay! The room was on the canal side, bed was comfortable, there was air con in the room (very useful in July), breakfast included and the hotel is centrally located (a few minutes walk from the Rialto, a few minutes walk... The Casa is a good price in a very expensive city, and centrally located to many popular areas. Although lacking in views, our canalside room looked into the windows of another hotel 5' away, but more incentive to get out and see the amazing city. The staff was wonderful, helping us find gluten free restaurants and providing gluten free breakfasts.... More

cantral location. The hotel was just a 3 - 5 minutes walk from San Marco square. The breakfast was ok but i guess very good value for money (especially for the expensive Venice). We were transferred from day 1 to a bed and breakfast room which was superbe ! The vintage interior design , the furniture all of them made... More

I spent a weekend of December in Casa Petrarca. The room was very clean as was the bathroom and the common spaces. Warm, no humidity issues, very (but very) closely located to St. Marco's square. The room was adequately big (8-9 sq. metres maybe??) i.e. perfectly fine for a hotel room. The breakfast was simple but included in the very... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
