Nice little B&B situated in the heart of Venice. The owners were friendly but not intrusive. We were fortunate to have an air conditioned room with a view over a canal - beautiful. Room very clean and in good decor, beds comfortable. Free use of a safe in our room (rare these days), did lack tea/coffee making facilities but with... More

My mother and I were in Europe for two weeks, mostly Italy. We didn't splurge on accommodation as we knew we wouldn't be in the hotels much. It turned out most of our hotels weren't very nice and the service wasn't fantastic either. HOWEVER, once we arrived in Venice, we were pleasantly surprised by Casa Petrarca. What a beautiful place!... More

We were there for 2 nights and there were nobody to help us in the reception(only for the check in). Saturday night we were looking for someone to help us booking a taxi but we only found help in the Hotel beside. The breakfast, that is included, was also too late(8h30-10h30) so we didn't even use this benefice...

Our hostess Valentina was so warm and welcoming-- she totally set our trip off on a nice vibe. I truly appreciates her comforting and kind treatment of us. Our room (#2): tiny, by American standards, was sufficient, clean, and comfortable. Thanks to the small size of the room, the AC chilled the room promptly, which made it a nice haven... More

My teenaged son and I stayed four nights at Casa Petrarca. Our instructions for late arrival, directions from the vaporetto stop to the hotel, getting into the hotel, etc. were spot on. The first two nights we were in a smaller room that was perfectly adequate - extremely clean, with a well-appointed bath, and a individual air conditioning unit that... More

We stayed for 2nights in the room with a shared bathroom, given the prices in Venice, the hotel was decently priced. Breakfast was included and had a good variety. The room was a good size with a basin inside the room. The shared shower and toilet was across the common area and down the hall. The bathroom was cleaned daily... More

Don't be put off because this is a one star hotel. In Italy the number of stars is an indication of amenities, not quality. Casa Petrarca is a very small (seven rooms by my count) hotel with tiny rooms, modest breakfasts, and without a 24 hour front desk (or even a lobby), all of which is typical for a one... More

Casa Petrarca is a friendly little hotel right in the heart of Venice. It's well situated to be reached by public transport, with fast walking access to the main historical attractions. Sadly, the host felt she had to apologise for the size of the room - of course it's small, it's in the middle of a city on a set... More

We stayed for a long weekend and it's a perfect location close to San Marco square (if you have a good sense of direction which we had to gather at first). The hotel itself is not so big, bit it more than makes up for it with very friendly and extremely helpful hosts who go out of their way to... More

Great location, homely environment, good rooms and amenities, close to St. Mark square and the Rialto Stop for airport and train station. Don't skip the breakfast. Try and get a room with the canal view.

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
