We arrived in Venice by plane from Rome. We chose to catch the Water Bus to Santa Maria del Giglio Station. This turned out to be a very good touristy and economical decision, as the Bus stopped at many Stations along the Grand Canal and created a great feeling to be in Venice again. The Hotel is about a 5... More

We stayed here for 2 nights and yes whilst I'd agree with some reviews that the location was excellent, the room / bathroom was clean and the breakfast was more than adequate. However we were greeted with a surly female receptionist who's attitude didn't improve throughout our stay. Isn't friendly, helpful characteristics are a pre-requisite for front of desk staff?... Stayed 4 nights here over Easter, Samoa and the rest of the staff were very helpful at all times. Hotel was quiet, clean and we had room 26 with fantastic views. Nothing was too much trouble. Great location and close by to San Marco, Accademia and The Rialto. Fully recommend this hotel.

My pregnant wife and I stayed here for two nights in March. Nice hotel, very clean, centrally located, friendly staff and an overall good stay. No canal views and rooms were small but to be expected in central Venice. Very close to the Gigio river bus stop which goes directly to the train station or airport (dependant on which one)... More

This hotel is good, especially the location. We arrived by boat and the hotel is so close to the canal. Perfect! We had a nice and quiet room, maybe a bit outdated, but still nice though. Breakfast was very good for an Italian hotel. The staff was very helpful and kind, our room was cleaned very proper each day, so... More

This hotel is located in a very quiet street but next to the grand canal. Everything you want is clase to you. Sant Mark square is only10' walk and a boat bus station less than 5'. The breakfast was delicious but it didnt have many things to choose. We stayed 6 nights and if i ever visit venice again i... More

I am a bit of a hotel snob, being in the travel business for over 20 years but I would not rate this hotel anything more than average. The common areas where very small which is fine but lacked any character. Our room was small and standard. Shower very awkward but it did the trick. We had actually been upgraded... More

It's close to the Alilaguna stop so you can make your arrival by water which is such a charming way to arrive. The hotel is very close to some great places to eat and drink, close to the Academia bridge and near to some nice little shops. The breakfast was generous, the rooms were warm and very quiet and I... I stayed at the Hotel Dei Dragomanni for 3 nights. This is the second time I stay at this charming boutique hotel, which is very well located on a quiet and narrow alley off Campo San Maurizio, with short walking distance both to Rialto and San Marco. If you take a water taxi, note that Academia is closer than San... More

After having trouble finding it (We got the water taxi to San Marco not realizing Academia is closer) we was greeted by the reception staff who were very polite and very happy to help! The reception area and main foyer was very clean, smelt nice and had a very modern/historic surrounding. The rooms were a perfect size for a couple,... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
