This is a wonderful find. Don't worry about the location looking on the map, we could walk to Saint Marks Sq in 15 - 20 mins. We had a room with a canal view. Our room was large, bed was OK. The Hotel is owed and operated by a wonderful couple. The breakfast was good. But you can't beat the... More

This tiny hotel is away from the hordes of cruise ship tourists, in a quiet residential neighborhood. Our room had large windows and a canal view. It was clean and spacious. The couple running the hotel was helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this place if you want to stay in a quiet, less touristy area. Even though it... More

Away from the centre of Venice, which in my opinion is a good thing, far more relaxed vibe and you won't get so riped off in the restaurants. Enjoyed walking down the streets and seeing the floating fruit and veg stalls. The hotel itself is clean but our room was very basic and smelt a little musty. Still, given the... More

I was a bit reluctant with the accommodation after reading the reviews but it turned out to be a very pleasant surprise in our stay in Venice. We visited Venice in the middle of summer so Venice was excessively over-populated with tourist that it is very difficult to enjoy the place. So we were thankful that the accommodation is not... My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights in mid-May, 2014. We both had a very pleasant stay. The hotel and rooms are clean. The staff are very friendly. The breakfast was probably the best hotel breakfast I had during my stay in Italy (keep in mind that Italian breakfasts are very light). The hotel is on the far... More

We arrived at the Locanda to find that our reservation hadn't totally gone through. It went through on the reservation company's site, but then that wasn't forwarded onto the actual hotel. We had our email confirming our reservation but the man who worked there did not have any account of this. After waiting about an hour in the main room... More

I was favorably impressed with the hotel. It was well kept and clean. My room had a shared bathroom, and that was also kept spotlessly. The room was simple and basic, but very quiet. It faced onto a lovely courtyard. The neighborhood was very nice, and the Via Garibaldi was lively with a local crowd. A rarity in Venice. The... More

I would rate this inn (Locanda) a bit above what is rated here, but the rating is perhaps more reflective of my overall experience of Venice, the high room prices, transportation options and moving around. The inn is located in a lovely, charming courtyard and the surroundings were quiet. Inside, the common living room offers a great view of the... More

The location is excellent, as it is away from the swarms of Venice and the view from our room was charming. The bathroom was quite smelly - it could have possibly been the drains? The breakfast service could have done with a smile.

I came here for a three day visit to Venice with my boyfriend. We were on a tight budget, but were pleasantly surprised by this place when we arrived. It's a fantastic location (we had a very 'authentic' view from our lovely shuttered window) and the owners are really helpful in terms of recommendations etc. Breakfast was pretty good too.... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
