Ca Orfeo reliability is highly questionable. Only two major booking websites keep on offering it : LateRooms.com and BudgetPlaces.com Just after we booked it on LateRooms.com, Ca Orfeo’s owner asked for a deposit to be paid directly to him by “telegraphic money order”. He advised us that our reservation would be cancelled if we couldn’t provide a check within the... More

The environement wasn't the most beautiful but the house is well located, the beds are confortable and the place was clean. Paolo was very available and nice and he speaks severals languages. He also was very flexible : we needed to cancel our last night at the last moment and he was very understanding and took care of it without... More

Owner speaks NO English. Got by through our limited French skills. He is rude and aggressive. The room & wc are incredibly tiny, moldy and covered with crushed mosquitoes on the walls. Great location.

Fantastic little place on the campo s.maria nova. We stayed in the residential accommodation on the square and not it the hotel itself so cannot comment on that. We agreed to arrive at 2pm and the owner was there right on time. Yes he speaks no English but he is the most pleasant and patient person as neither party understands... More

We stayed here for 3 nights. We had a room that overlooked the canal but we didn't open the window since there were a lot of mosquitos. The accomodation was very basic. We paid 100 euros a night. In Venice I get the idea that places to stay are very expensive so I guess that we were lucky to be... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
