Owner speaks NO English. Got by through our limited French skills. He is rude and aggressive. The room & wc are incredibly tiny, moldy and covered with crushed mosquitoes on the walls. Great location.

Fantastic little place on the campo s.maria nova. We stayed in the residential accommodation on the square and not it the hotel itself so cannot comment on that. We agreed to arrive at 2pm and the owner was there right on time. Yes he speaks no English but he is the most pleasant and patient person as neither party understands... More

The owner speaks no English however you don't really need to speak to him other than checking in and checking out. make sure you have the right cash and your booking details. the room was really big with a huge bed and an... Very hard to find especially at night, you have to ring the owner who spoke no English whatsoever, he gave us a map to a place that was a totally different building to where we stayed Not where the canal was but by a lovely square around the corner, thanks to at italian lady passing we got there in the... We stayed here for 3 nights. We had a room that overlooked the canal but we didn't open the window since there were a lot of mosquitos. The accomodation was very basic. We paid 100 euros a night. In Venice I get the idea that places to stay are very expensive so I guess that we were lucky to be... More

Clean, central location takes a bit of finding but well worth it. Set in an old building bags of character, very nice guy who owns it. The use of a kitchen was nice and Co-op around the corner was a cheap option for food, drinks etc, but then who wants to stay in! Most rooms have en suite however the... More

Ok, so its Venice, so any room is going to be pricey, we "only"paid around $85 euros per night for this very simple room/guest house. It is in the heart of venice, 7-8 minute walk to Rialto Bridge. Our room overlooked a canal, (admittidelty not the most beautiful canal but) one which was used regualarly by the gondolas and it... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
