We picked this hotel based on previous reviews. We were on a budget and only had two criteria for a Venice hotel. it had to have a private bathroom (which not all rooms do have and we paid extra for) and had to be clean. Not only did this hotel meet those two requirements, it also provides a very good... More

Real gem close to all attractions, 2 minutes from St Marco Square. . Very good price, excellent staff, very modern inside and maintained and cleaned to a very high standard. May not look to good on the approach to it which is up a very narrow alley way, but you will be very pleasantly surprised when you enter the building.... More

Great location, very beautiful boutique hotel, there were no disappointments, morning breakfast was really good. very clean rooms & washroom. Walking distance to everything. Highly recommend. Location was a little hard to find, as it was a very narrow street. Buy if u ask any restaurant, its easy directions.

2nd stay at this hotel. 2 years ago stayed a couple of nights in a big canal view room. This time, through a comedy of errors that were of my own making, I ended up staying in a small room at the top of the stairs. The error was I booked the Hotel Tiepolo Vicenza not Venezia...what a faux pas.... More

We loved this fantastic hotel. The view to the canal was exellent with my morning coffe. It is close to s.marco place, a lot of restaurants and shops. The staff were very nice and the room was clean and tidy. We would love to stay here again sometime..in room 105! :)

Hotel is 3 minutes away from Piazza St Marco so location is fantastic. It is a tiny hotel and it also runs a series of apartments in nearby buildings. The one we chose was the Appartmento Rio. The hotel clerk will walk you to your room. Rooms are very basic but include bed, bathroom, TV, AC and a little kitchen... More

Short stroll to St Marks Sq. room was very clean and tidy although a little small, but that seems the norm for venice. Breakfast offered a good choice and selection. Would suggest googlemap for directions as it could be difficult to find. Used the Restaurant next door which the Hotel gave 10% discount and was reasonable.

Hidden down a dark alley this hotel is a little gem. Very near to the water taxi stop, and in a good central location for all the city sights. The rooms are small but very clean, the bathroom had a good (but small) shower, double bed, and air conditioning, we didn't use ours as it wasn't needed. Breakfast was a... More

You do have to prepare ypurself how to get to the hotel, but on the website is a very clear explanation. Then you have to look for a small sign in a very narrow alley leading to the hotel entrance. Friendly staff at reception, we liked the decoration, and fresh flowers everywhere. Rooms are small, with a double bed, a... More

Hard to find the entrance (see the other reviews) but only a few minutes from the Vaporetto stop San Zaccaria. Very friendly staff, breakfast very minimal (as it often is in Italy). Was too late to eat in the restaurant owned by the hotel (Aciugeta) but got snacks at the bar in the little square and wine and coffe at... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
