We opted to stay at Relais Venezia on our return visit to Venice because of it's great location and helpful staff.Though the hotel is small as was our room we were very content here.We had the misfortune of having our luggage left behind in Rome. The gentleman who works at the front desk spent considerable time on the phone with the... We booked through an online booking company and picked out the hotel because it looked newly renovated. We were not disappointed. It was a good location though one had to drag their suitcase across two bridges upon getting off at San Marco vaporetto (going up and down flights of stairs when staying in Venice) and through cobbled stone streets (TIP:... A very good and comfortable modern accommodation in the heart of Venice in a superbly restored old building. Nice and modern room and bathroom. Good and well stocked continental breakfast. Very helpful round the clock staff.

We stayed for five days and saw most of Venice based from here. This hotel has a wonderful location, four minutes walk from St Mark's Square, six minutes from the Rialto, and only about ten minutes from boats for Murano or the airport at Ospedale. On the way to anywhere from this hotel you pass dozens of typical Venetians restaurants,... More

We stayed for two nights. The hotel emailed directions and we found it easily. Our room was lovely, at the top overlooking rooftops. Spotlessly clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful, Frederico especially gave us loads of useful information. Breakfast in bed, such a treat! Really good location, close to St. Mark's, Rialto Bridge, Bridge of Sighs, shops.... More

The only difficulty we had was finding the hotel. I recommend checking in during the daylight hours or arrive by water taxi. The hotel was clean, quiet and appeared to be recently remodeled. The breakfast is simple but adequate to start the day. The staff directed us to an excellent restaurant. It is very close to St Mark's and Rialto... More

Amazing stay. Beautiful hotel, very luxurious, marble en suite, amazing breakfast. Service was great and the hotel is surprisingly modern. Would highly recommend this hotel for your stay in Venice. Nearby to San Marco which is also awesome.

In a great location, so close to St Mark's but at the same time hidden away and tranquil. We arrived by water taxi from the train station, it took us practically to the door of the hotel, and the staff came to help us with the baggage. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome, offer... More

You do expect a great quality hotel from the photos and reviews left. Be prepared for a big disappointment. 1. The hotel has lift only from ground to the first floor. 2. Breakfast is bread and marmalade and coffee is made from nescafe sachets. 3. The staff is exceptionally rude. 4. The is no heating in the rooms. 5. The... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
