Efficient, livable rooms, with lots of storage, room to move, and good bathrooms are perhaps the result of this place formerly being a religious community. Whatever.....it now makes a great place to stay while visiting Venice. On a very quiet side street, but 2 minutes from a square with restaurants, and a 10 minute walk to St. Mark's Square, the... This could be a very lovely hotel if they updated the interior. It is so tired with florals and dusty pinks, the dining room looks and smells like an old people's hotel from the 70's. During breakfast, which had a poor selection, I asked for a cup of hot water to make tea as they only have one coffee machine.... More

Domus Ciliota is a very basic hotel. It has everything one needs for a short visit / weekend get away. The rooms are pretty basic but the bed was quite comfortable, the shower had good water pressure with plenty of hot water. The entire hotel is extremely clean. Breakfast was enough to keep us going until lunch but again basic.... More

Domus Ciliota is an former school, so it is somewhat dormitory in appearance rather than quaint. That said, it was very easy to find, walk 3-4 blocks from canal, very clean and safe, with an excellent breakfast buffet and staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights in Venice, being able to walk to everything from the hotel, tons of restaurant... More

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. Room was pretty small, but functional. As we explored Venice from dust till dawn and only slept in the hotel - it was a nice experience. Free WiFi access works only in the lobby, from our room we couldn't connect. Breakfast was OK, and the location of hotel is perfect, 5-10 minutes... More

I had stayed in this hotel for a night on 6th October, 2014. Room was quite compact for a single person. When I lost my way to hotel, I called the hotel over phone and they were very helpful in explaining me how to reach hotel. Location was not bad and very near to major water taxi station ( accademia).... More

Stayed here for 2 nights while visiting the Architecture Biennale, which was about a 30-minute walk away. It has a rather good location in the heart of Venice, and is about 10 minutets walk from the Academia vaporetto stop. The single room that I stayed in was like an ensuite room in a student dormitory. Not that it was bad... More

Our first visit to Venice was exactly as we expected except the crowds were NOT as bad as we had been lead to expect; very bury? Yes. And it was much easier to get around on foot than we expected. We arrived by train and had no difficulty getting the Line 2 water bus (direction San Marco) to the stop... More

We stayed here for 6 nights in September. We appreciated the 24 hour desk service and the continental breakfast offered a wide range of choice. The room was rather small, but adequate if you are just using it to sleep in. The bed was not that comfortable, but after walking around Venice all day, we did sleep well. I liked... More

We booked this solid 2 star hotel several months ahead of time for 549 Eu + city tax (2 Eu/pp/nt) for 6 nights. Excellent location - once you get the hang of the maze of streets all over Venice. It is less than 10 minutes to the Rialto Bridge, 20 minutes to St. Marks, 5 minutes to the Accademia Bridge.... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
