I would stay here next visit. It's a very good value. I stayed 10 nights, 7 with a group of artists and 3 on my own. I like the location which is near the Academia Bridge on the main island. The walk to St. Mark's Square and that to the Rialto Bridge are easy. The big campos in the area... More

Basic hotel, no frills, safe, convenient location. Close to water taxi. Excellent complimentary breakfast. AC was not working, perhaps too early in the season. With the windows open you could hear the church bells ringing throughout the day...so typically Venice!

Hotel perfectly located near the "vaporetto" stop, and concerning Venice with all those narrow and labirinthic streets it's a very good thing. Near Piaza San Marco and good restaurants and "bacari" small bars. The rooms are clean and good beds. There's an elevator . The breakfast is awesome , with fruit, hard boiled eggs, juice ,toast, cakes, bread and also a coffe... More

The Domus Ciliota is run by a religious order. It's tidy and clean. All rooms have twin beds. It's definitely institutional, but it's quiet and pleasant with a helpful staff. There's a lovely courtyard. Breakfast buffet is adequate. Hotels in Venive are very expensive. For budget seekers and small groups, this is a good option--- the best I've found.

Efficient, livable rooms, with lots of storage, room to move, and good bathrooms are perhaps the result of this place formerly being a religious community. Whatever.....it now makes a great place to stay while visiting Venice. On a very quiet side street, but 2 minutes from a square with restaurants, and a 10 minute walk to St. Mark's Square, the... This could be a very lovely hotel if they updated the interior. It is so tired with florals and dusty pinks, the dining room looks and smells like an old people's hotel from the 70's. During breakfast, which had a poor selection, I asked for a cup of hot water to make tea as they only have one coffee machine.... More

Domus Ciliota is a very basic hotel. It has everything one needs for a short visit / weekend get away. The rooms are pretty basic but the bed was quite comfortable, the shower had good water pressure with plenty of hot water. The entire hotel is extremely clean. Breakfast was enough to keep us going until lunch but again basic.... More

Domus Ciliota is an former school, so it is somewhat dormitory in appearance rather than quaint. That said, it was very easy to find, walk 3-4 blocks from canal, very clean and safe, with an excellent breakfast buffet and staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights in Venice, being able to walk to everything from the hotel, tons of restaurant... More

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. Room was pretty small, but functional. As we explored Venice from dust till dawn and only slept in the hotel - it was a nice experience. Free WiFi access works only in the lobby, from our room we couldn't connect. Breakfast was OK, and the location of hotel is perfect, 5-10 minutes... More

I had stayed in this hotel for a night on 6th October, 2014. Room was quite compact for a single person. When I lost my way to hotel, I called the hotel over phone and they were very helpful in explaining me how to reach hotel. Location was not bad and very near to major water taxi station ( accademia).... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
