We booked and stayed in this hotel during late June 2015. What a find! Close enough to all that Venice has to offer, but away from the noise and crowds too. The hotel was a clean and tidy no frills hotel with a charming courtyard to sit in and have breakfast. It was a fantastic base with really friendly staff,... More

The hotel is located in San Marco's district, at short walking distance to the Basilica and most popular touristic spots. It is also close to Piazza S Stefano (nice restaurants) and San Samuele's vaporetto station at Gran Canal. The hotel used to be an old convent and school, which can be appreciated from outside and while seating in the patio... More

Got off the taxi boat and made are way to the hotel. Very easy to find. The streets surrounding the building didnt give me the best confidence. However entering the building I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is very clean and tidy and the staff are very helpful, and speak very good English. The double room was a bit small... More

This quiet hotel is well located on San Marco and close to the Ponte dell'Accademia bridge. It's a short walk from San Angelo water bus stop. Pros: Great quiet location. Excellent locals bar near by - Trattoria Da Fiore Good shower. Free wifi. Nice continental breakfast with good coffee. Lovely walled courtyard to relax in. Cons: Aircon is hopelessly inadequate... This small hotel is great value and in an excellent location on a quiet street not far from the main attractions. It's quite modest in decor but our bedroom was clean and comfortable and the shower was good. The breakfast is a buffet with a reasonable choice. Free wifi is a bonus.

I would stay here next visit. It's a very good value. I stayed 10 nights, 7 with a group of artists and 3 on my own. I like the location which is near the Academia Bridge on the main island. The walk to St. Mark's Square and that to the Rialto Bridge are easy. The big campos in the area... More

Basic hotel, no frills, safe, convenient location. Close to water taxi. Excellent complimentary breakfast. AC was not working, perhaps too early in the season. With the windows open you could hear the church bells ringing throughout the day...so typically Venice!

Hotel perfectly located near the "vaporetto" stop, and concerning Venice with all those narrow and labirinthic streets it's a very good thing. Near Piaza San Marco and good restaurants and "bacari" small bars. The rooms are clean and good beds. There's an elevator . The breakfast is awesome , with fruit, hard boiled eggs, juice ,toast, cakes, bread and also a coffe... More

The Domus Ciliota is run by a religious order. It's tidy and clean. All rooms have twin beds. It's definitely institutional, but it's quiet and pleasant with a helpful staff. There's a lovely courtyard. Breakfast buffet is adequate. Hotels in Venive are very expensive. For budget seekers and small groups, this is a good option--- the best I've found.

Efficient, livable rooms, with lots of storage, room to move, and good bathrooms are perhaps the result of this place formerly being a religious community. Whatever.....it now makes a great place to stay while visiting Venice. On a very quiet side street, but 2 minutes from a square with restaurants, and a 10 minute walk to St. Mark's Square, the... Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
