Rio Alto is small and basic yes, but for the price you pay, you couldn't ask for more. My friend and I had the 'green' room which had two single beds, a TV, a cupboard, a desk and a beautiful view of a little canal. It was clean, tiny, had beautiful sheets. We were very happy. Unfortunately the WiFi was... More

We stayed here for a weekend in June 2014. It was reasonably priced for Venice. Whilst basic, it was clean and in a superb location. Breakfast was continental and served outside the room which meant you could pick it up when you wanted. Our room (on the first floor) had a four poster bed of sorts and an amazing view... More

We enjoyed our stay, it is more of a B&B experience than a hotel. The rooms were clean and the location was amazing, just a couple of mins stroll to the Rialto bridge. We stayed in the triple room which was fantastic as the 3rd bed has its own room. Great for us with an older child. Rooms are air... More

Like the other posts read, you have to check in at a separate Hotel. Not a big deal, they email you a map. The streets in Venice are maze-like so finding the check-in hotel was a bit confusing. Finding Rio Alto was not. The room was clean. There is noise on the canal...just as you would expecting a street. I... More

My wife and I visited this beautiful place while visiting Family in Formia Italy. The hospitality was great and check in and out was smooth. The room was spotless with easy access to food and coffee and shops, wifi was very good, with a great view of the canal as the gondola ferried people through the city. The train station... More

Stayed in the triple, which was quite large- the single bed had its own room. Clean and quiet. Overlooked a canal. Great location- 2 minutes from Rialto bridge and water bus stops and 10 mins from San Marco. Very kind and helpful front desk clerks who went out of their way to assist us.

The Inn was clean, well equiped, cosy. Our room was spacious, it had a big bathroom,it was quiet,VERY near the Rialto Bridge and all the shops one could need were within a 200 meters range. The staff was polite and helpfull . We paid a very reasonable price. Only disadvantage the lack of elevator.

From the direction we got of the web we found Rio Alto's front door. With 3 guys sitting on the step to get free wifi from the shop next door. Spent the next 15 minute trying to find the hotel where we needed to check in. Supposedly 30 meter away. Actually 100 meters away through the lane-ways ( start with... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighborhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
