the BB is well placed: close to trainstation (not even 10 minutes slow walk) but in a quiet neighborhood, and close to 2 very good and nice pizzeria's. our room was big and clean, the bed big and comfortable. the bathroom (in the corridor) warm and clean, but very small. the breakfast usual italian, so nothing exceptional, but ok (coffee,... We found Casa Mimma on Tripadvisor 12 months ago and stayed there for a week September 2014. It's the old story, you pay for what you get. In the case of Casa Mimma you get good Average accomodation in the very heart of Santa Croce, walking distance to the Grand Canal (3minutes), main railway station and bus terminal (10 minutes)... I am about to have my 4th visit to Casa Mimma this year. i have stayed for a period of 1 week each time & this year will be staying for 2 weeks. It is a charming little place with a very kind & friendly owner. I find it amazing that someone would find Valter surly. He is a quiet... More

The warning bells should have been ringing when this seemed to be the only place available in Venice upon booking. I now know why. This was our third visit to Venice and we've come to expect not much for one's money here, but this was disappointing beyond words, even for Venice The only positive was that the room was reasonably-sized,... this a nice honest well located no frills B+B well appointed and more than acceptable for our short stay in Venice - breakfast is very simple but perfectly ok and the rooms are fairly basic but clean and nicely appointed

Had to call owner to come open door. Room hot when entered since owner does not prepare for your arrival. Found ceiling light with one of five plastic arms broken, and only 2 of 4 light bulbs worked. No hand towels, no bath mat. Only one small bar of soap was to last 2 people for 2 days. Breakfast not... More

We stayed at Casa Mimma in April this year and found it to be a little gem. Ran by a lovely Italian couple who both could converse in English remarkably well. Very friendly and helpful. The rooms are basic, but kept spotless.. We stayed in one of the double rooms, which also doubled as a family room, which had plenty... More

Clean, comfortable, excellent location. The courtyard breakfast was so pleasant and a great way to start the day. Once you learn your way around, you can get to here very easily. Neighborhood restaurants were also all delicious.

This was our third visit to Casa Mimma & hopefully it will not be our last. We stay for a week each time & I would like to make it two next time. Valter the owner is a good man, who runs it well, & it feels like visiting an old friend. The rooms are comfortable & have everything one... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighborhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighborhood identity.
