My husband and I stayed here for the first night of our Italian trip. It was an excellent welcome to the beautiful country. My husband had been in contact with the owner, Mattia, leading up to our trip and we had clear directions on how to get there from the water taxi stop and given the code for the gate.... More

Mattia, the owner of the B&B was helpful from the first contact. We had no problem parking our car, taking the water bus to the correct stop, and walking to the B&B with our luggage. After getting settled, Mattia gave us several useful suggestions on places to visit. He is especially knowledgeable about Venice, and willing to spend the time... More

We couldn't imagine a more charming place to stay in one of the most romantic cities in the world. My husband and I stayed in a double room, overlooking a canal with en suite bathroom. The room was very sweetly decorated, extremely clean, and very comfortable. I especially loved the way the windows opened so we could feel the fresh... More

We stayed here for 4 nights and loved everything about it. Our room was lovely over looking the canal, comfortable bed, mini fridge, great breakfast in the morning and lovely personalised coffee. The owner, Mattia, was very helpful with great knowledge of the best places to eat and visit. The map he gave us was better than the one we... More

Superb value, lovely people - central location but quiet. Pay the extra for a deluxe room and be sure to ask for dining recommendations, there are many great restaurants nearby that are off the beaten track and better value.

We have stayed here three times since 2006, with the last visit in September 2014. The view from most rooms is perfect, close to the canal, but not too close. The rooms are small and clean, and the breakfast is the best we have ever had included with our room, including custom coffee. But, the best thing about this guest... More

If you are looking for the Sheraton or Hilton, move on. If you visualize small bridges crossing the little canal outside your window, vine covered walls surrounding a patio and small garden and cappuccino every morning, then this is the place for you! The rooms are small but comfortable... Remember this is an old, Venetian home. No gyms. No pools.... More

My Wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. We had a great view of the canal and bridge. There were several great restaurants in the immediate area. It was a short walk to anywhere in Venice. The other guests were very friendly and quite often had tea in the common area at the end of the day and discussed... More

We, along with our daughter and son-in-law, enjoyed three days at Ponte Chiodo. This is a charming, neighbourhood-like, guest house, with a real flavour of Venice. This is not a place for those who desire modern, glass and chrome, but it is for those, like ourselves, who want to experience Venice rather than just view it. Our superior rooms were... More

We had a wonderful stay in Venezia, thanks to our gracious host Mattias. The location had a neighbourhood feel to it which we prefer over the hustle and bustle of more "touristy" areas but still close enough to be able to walk anywhere very easily. We really enjoyed looking out of our canal view window watching the Venetians walking to... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
