We stayed in Venice for only two nights in a long Euro trip and I can say this was the best location in the entire trip! The room was comfortable, the breakfast was delicious and served in that lovely garden! I wish we could have gotten a room with a view to the canal, but we were allowed to cross... More

The best thing about this hotel was its' position. It was in a quiet area yet easy accessible to walk anywhere. Mattia was very helpful and gave useful information, clearly loving the city. We had booked a twin room which had a private bathroom opposite the bedroom, this was not a problem and we knew this before we went. The... More

Hello, I am sorry you had not an excellent stay in Pontechiodo. I am quite frustrated about this review, because I always ask to my guests if it is all right. It would have been possible to inform you the bathroom has shutters; it would have been possible to replace immediately the sheets, to explain you the vey small crack... More

My husband and I stayed at Ponte Chiodo for three nights and loved both our room and the surrounding area of Cannareggio. We stayed in a room at the top floor that had beautiful canal views, and we really enjoyed the breakfasts every morning, particularly the fresh croissants and the cappuccinos, served in the beautiful garden. Mattia, our host, was... More

Mattia is very helpful and his restaurant recommendations are helpful. He clearly wants guests to see an authentic venice, which we did. The house is nice and located out of the way of the busy streets which are commercialised. We were however disappointed with breakfast. We would have much preferred some toasted bread and soft boiled eggs, not just hard... More

Hello, I am sorry you did not appreciate breakfast in my guest house. I agree there is not English breakfast. Nevertheless breakfast offers fresh bread and croissants (they arrive every morning from a close-by bakery), juices , yogurts, typical venetian biscuits (called buranei), marmalade , cheese, eggs, cakes, cornflakes, muesli, salami, mortadella, cheese, season fruit , and of course, coffe,... I originally planned a long weekend trip to Venice but my husband talked me into going for longer....so 3749 Ponte Chiodo became our home for a week. I was so happy that we did, partly due to the extreme temperatures in Venice at the time of our visit. This B&B is in a perfect location for just getting lost, exploring... More

Tucked just off one of the crowded areas of Venice, this small bed and breakfast is a good base. The rooms are small but adequate, the staff are helpful and friendly, and the garden is heavenly after a day walking around town. Even internet access was great. Our only comment would be that breakfast is monotonous.

Good location, just off the Ca d'Oro vaporetto stop. There is a quiet enclosed garden where the breakfasts are served and one can relax there at the end of a busy day. Breakfasts were ample with wonderful latte's. The host Matte is very helpful and knowledgeable about Venice. Very good restaurants just steps away.

The hotel's location is pretty good; 10 minutes from the Rialto bridge and 5 more to St. Marks square by foot. Since we reserved there for 4 days, this was a good thing. However, the hotel itself, like many buildings in Venice, is not exactly grand in nature. Our room was on the second floor, and it was overstuffed with... More

Dear Mr Morgan, I am sorry you did not enjoy you stay in Ponte Chiodo and I am sorry I was not there to guest you because of my holiday. Hereby I wish to clarify some points for the next guests. The good location of Pontechiodo is definitely not the short distance walk to San Marco Square and Rialto Bridge... More

3749 Ponte Chiodo was one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. While not fancy, this adorable guest house makes you feel like you're actually living in Venice. I loved every time I opened the gate to the secret garden to enter the building, which was tucked away from the busy Ca D'Oro. Our room was the only room... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
