We stayed for 2 nights and loved it! I have recommended this B&B to family, who also loved it. I would stay there again in a heart beat if I ever go to Venice again. The rooms are nice and, in our room, we has a view of the grand canal. It's very pleasant and clean, and as someone lose... More

This seemed like a hidden gem of the city. So close and convenient to a vaporetto stop and the Academy bridge. The interior had upholstered walls up to the high ceilings and beautiful furnishings. The clerk, Marta, was friendly and attentive. And the price was great. I suppose the shared bathroom or the walk-up account for this place being so... More

Disgusted with service! We were booked to stay here 3 nights, having reserved the room through booking.com months earlier and paid in advance. We were really excited about our stay. It was just by luck that I managed to check my email at the airport during our stop over, to find an email from booking.com saying that the hotel was... More

To be fair, we never actually stayed at this B&B so I cannot rate any of the hotel's facilities. This is our story: I booked this B&B in about March for our arrival in late May. I booked online and provided all the contact information necessary if there was an issue. We arrived as scheduled and found a locked gate.... More

A most interesting old home, with winding wooden stairs, lopsided floors, old photographs, antique furniture, silk covered walls... our room even had a beautiful old washstand in mint condition! The staircase landing had a bookcase that kept me engrossed for half an hour, with heaps of books, old and new, board games, and such. Located right by a vaporetto stop,... More

The good: location location location. Close and convenient to express vaparetto stop. No need to haul your luggage on the back streets. Locked gate and locked entry. Very clean. Good sized rooms, high celings. In the suite – the bathroom had modern amenities and a great shower. The host was very nice. The bad – tv in Italian (in the... More

We stayed at the Art Academy for 3 nights from 19 April, our first time in Venice. We enjoyed our stay here - it has a kind of 'old world' feel; not luxurious by any means, but very pleasant, clean, and comfortable. Our bedroom and its en-suite bathroom were both excellent size, and the bedroom had a view of the... More

I spent 6 nights at the B&B Art Academy at the beginning of April. I visit Venice 4 or 5 times a year but usually stay in the Castello sestiere either on the Riva degli Schiavoni close to San Zaccaria or further east in the quieter Giardini/Biennale quayside area. This time I thought I would have a change and stay... More

It was among the best places that I stayed while in Europe. The place itself gives u the period feel, if u are among those that want to have a break from the usual star rated plastic smile experience;-) The location is also very convenient to tourist spots. Not too close nor too far from the eurail station. All the... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighborhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighborhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighborhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbors exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
