We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay in Venice. Close and easy from the Vapparetto stop. It is close to the local district,, where we took late night strolls without encountering a soul. The staff was always helpful, and the downstairs courtyard was inviting,, and a good place to have coffee and wifi. Highly recommended. Don & Angela... More

We had a bit of trouble finding this place, even with the help of GPS. You have to go down many little alleys until you finally find it. It has a nice little courtyard, where you can access wifi. Breakfast was 5 extra euros I think, but we didn't get it so I can't comment on that. We stayed in... More

This was a great choice for Venice. My room was one of the larger single rooms of my 3 week hoilday. I loved the location too. It was easy to walk all around Venice. Plus there are great cheap places to eat nearby. I WILL BE BACK!!!

When I booked this hotel I was apprehensive due to booking a room with a shared bathroom - I need not have been. It was find. The room was very small and the bed a bit hard but honestly the positives outweighed this ten fold. The garden was stunning (the pics on here do not do it justice) and after... More

Venice is an expensive city, and this is a very cheap hotel - cheaper than many hostels even. It's situated in Cannaregio, in a neighbourhood away from the tourists. Bring a good map, it's a bit hard to find. The rooms are a bit old, but cozy, and has a sink and a mirror. The shared bathroom is pretty new, and... More

If you want to be away from the crowd of San Marco while being able to reach it within a nice 15 minutes walk, this hotel is for you. Very nice and cosy hotel. The room was quite correct and the garden very pleasant. The only drawback comes from the breakfast which was very basic, which was somewhat disappointing regarding... More

This place was nice, a perfect spot for just two nights in venice. We arrived late at night and the woman working did not speak any English, it wasn't a issue to us considering we are in her country :) but still made it a little difficult to work everything out. I ended up having a extra person with us,... More

We had a very good stay at Hotel Boccassini. Very polite staff, nice garden and reasonable breakfast, nice rooms, We felt a bit uncomfortable because of the street noise, people were chatting and walking even after midnight, we could not close the windows as it was hot and no air-condition . maybe if you get the garden-front rooms you will... A great little hotel. Luca, the owner, was extremely helpful and pleasant. The location is great as it is near enough to the centre of Venice: to the left about 3kms is St Marks Square and to the right is the railway/bus station - about 4kms. So it is a bit of walking but there is lots to see and... More

Hotel Casa Boccassini is an amazing little place, with a nice and quiet garden and a very soft cat named Simba. It's near everything, but still out of the worst touristic area. The staff was so lovely and helpful, and it's very ceap compared with other hotels in the area. I'd recomend the hotel to all my friends and family,... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
