We have just come back from a wonderful 4 night stay at this very central hotel. The hotel is in a great position, only 5 mins from St Marks Square, overlooking the lagoon so no need to worry about getting lost as you just have to follow the many signs to St Marco then its just a stroll along the... Very helpful and friendly staff. Gorgeous view overlooking the end of the Grand Canal. The hotel is located very close to much of the sightseeing (only a few minutes walk to St. Mark's square). The hotel is easy to get to by water bus (vaporeto). Rooms were older and a little musky but all unique (and named after famous musicians,... More

We stayed for two nights just prior to Christmas. The holiday was booked through e-bookers and we had a great deal on Monarch flights and the room - £220 each. The initial impression was positive. We hoped for a room with lagoon views but ours faced the courtyard at the rear which was fine. Each room is named after musicians... More

Booked hotel via Hotels.com site. we opted for the suite with overlooking the lagoon. Staff EXTREMELY friendly and HELPFUL. Speaks English, The hotel was under renovation during our visit, a little bit of noise during our stay (morning "alarm clock" for us) but we were pretty much out exploring the city. Breakfast was pretty standard. Again, very friendly staff!

We stayed in the Ray Charles room on floor 2. A very nice double room with a full bathtub and two windows which open to a wonderful view of the lagoon! The hotel is a 5/7 minute walk from the Piazza San Marco, and walkable to every part of central Venice. Down the side alleys there are nice eating spots... More

Good location, good view (but this time thay have renovation)! It is clean, with fine decoration, but too greenish (everything green)😁 Another thing, that at night you can hear some noises from outside! At reception, they are friendly😊

Outstanding value; all other Hotels with this epic of a view and location are at least $200 more. Plus, it has the advantage of being walking distance to San Marco, but isn't too close that you get run over by all the Tourist hordes. It is also a short walk to the less touristy but tree covered Arsenale/Castello district. The... More

Excellent small bed and breakfast hotel. Very comfortable and clean. Helpful staff. Fantastic view of lagoon. Just a few minutes walk from St Mark's and beside boat stops. Amazingly cheap compared with many other hotels.

This one is definitely a mixed bag. First, is the place a hotel, a B&B, a pensione, an auberge, a what? Trying to find it and knowing it's between 2 hotels we walked past and completely missed it - Turns out there's only a small plaque of the wall hidden by the handbag stall spilling out over the street. Once... More

Affordable room with a view, hence the 5 star rating Located on (between Arsenale & Zacarria Vaporetto stops) the frontage of the Lagoon. The building and entrance is non-descript - look for the doorway next to the bag shop with the orange awning. Smallish but intimate hotel, breakfast good and rooms clean and adequate. Located towards the end of the... More

Staying in Castello

Neighborhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighborhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
